Classy Craiggy in San Diego

Friday was a late night in San Diego with Matt Smith, Bedros Keuilian, and 30 awesome personal trainer friends of mine. We had a great dinner at Donovan's Seafood restaurant.

We ended up going to Donovan's for dinner five nights in a row. If you go there, get the sea bass...after you train at Fit Athletic, of course.

This morning I did one more workout at Fit Athletic before flying back to Toronto today.

My training: Power Cleans, box jumps, deadlifts, front squat, good mornings, TRX ab fallouts. Great gym. Stay classy, Fit Athletic.

See you in June at the TT Summit

Today's Kickbutt Mindset Tips:
Make today the day you finally leave a bad habit behind. Tell the habit "It's me, not you" and kick it to the curb for good.

There's nothing that can be done about the past – you can only improve the way you do things in the future. Take time today to plan and prepare for your future while enjoying where you are in the present.

"The best way to get started is to get started. Life rewards action…not reaction. Wait for nothing." – Kekich Credo #81...

...Don't wait to change. Don't wait until tomorrow. Just do it. It's less painful to do it than it is to sit around and think about it or feel guilty that you haven't started yet. Once you get started, things will get done.

San Diego Workout and Motivation

Another great workout at Fit Athletic in San Diego. Watching the sun come up over Petco Park is a pretty good training view. Meathead Friday workout of DB Press, Pullups, Bench, Row, Triceps, and and Lateral Raises. Great start to the day. Now off to hang out with over 35 trainers and learn from Bedros Keuilian and Matt Smith.

Today's Kickbutt Mindset Tips:
You can't change your genetics, but you can change your attitude, your persistence, your environment, the people you listen to and hang around with, and the things you do. You can change, so if you want to, just get started.

Be positive. Encourage People. Do this and others will want to help you in return. Be yourself and be proud of it. There are plenty of great people out there in the world that enough of them will come along for the ride.

No matter what the world throws at you today, you are going to handle it awesomely and you are going to emerge from the day a better and stronger person.

Abs Special and San Diego Workout

The best way to get abs is to get lean, because the #truth is, we all have abs. But no amount of crunching is going to make them show through belly fat.

The combination of metabolic resistance training and fat loss nutrition. Add my unique total-body ab exercises to the mix and you'll have a flat stomach and six-pack abs. Last day for this super $7 deal here

My training: Just did a squat workout at Fit Athletic. The gym looks right into Petco Park so you can watch Padres games. I love this gym. And this city. It's definitely in my top 3 to choose from if I was ever to live in America.

Today's Kickbutt Mindset Tips:

Six Pack Solution Sale

Abs. Everyone has them.

No matter what level of 'insulation' you have over your six-pack, I guarantee your abs are under there.

But no amount of crunching will bring them to the surface.

For that matter, no amount of 'planking' or 'stability ball rolling out' will either.

No ab exercise is magic. Nor any infomercial ab gadget.

What works for getting abs is this, and this alone:

The combination of metabolic resistance training and fat loss nutrition. Add my unique total-body ab exercises to the mix and you'll have a flat stomach and six-pack abs.

That's the Final Word on Six Pack Abs.

Hopefully this is the last email I'll ever have to send out explaining why crunches just won't cut it if you want to get a sexy flat stomach and six pack abs.

The bottom line is that for less than the price of a footlong sub and a sugary drink, you can get abs at home with this plan:

a) 12 weeks of at-home metabolic resistance training workouts

My Top Gyms in America

Workout at Fit Athletic in San Diego, done. Meathead upper body in a gym with filled with beautiful girls. Great place to train. Then had a great dinner at Donovan's Seafood with my best Armenian buddy, Bedros Keuilian.

Fit Athletic is in my top 5 gyms in America. Right up there with Powerhouse Gym (in Tampa) and Renegade Gym in Jersey. Other great gyms include Results-Fitness in Santa Clarita (Alwyn Cosgrove's gym), and John Alvino's gym in Jersey (near Morristown).

Last week I pushed the Prowler at Jay Ferruggia's Renegade Gym...I might buy one for the farm. Speaking of Jay, here's one of his articles that I'm always referring to on how to do more pullups (check it out):

Facebook QnA from www.TurbulenceTrainingFanpage.com

Q: I sometimes use KB swings (two hand , single, high pull and alternating) as a finisher. I do 20 seconds on and 10 off for 8 rounds but I don't really think it is Tabata because there is really no way to safely do that at an all out pace. Would you recommend something different as a finisher or is that acceptable?

Answer:
That's not bad, and you are correct, it's not tabata...its just 20-10. I'd switch to a 30-30 or 40-20 routine. Check out www.kettlebellworkouts.com for more ideas.

And more QnA from www.EarlytoRise.com

Q: hi craig! how do you personally keep track of all your daily goals and your weekly schedule? do you prefer pen and paper, white boards etc, or do you prefer electronically (eg google calendar). which methods work best for you with personal productivity?

Answer:
I use a word document. Keep it as simple as possible. Too many people turn planning into procrastination.

Q: Hi Craig. Is it true that you should stick to big markets when building a product/affiliate business (i.e. health, business, dating), or is there room for small niches? I've kind of heard both ways, I guess depending on your goals for your business. Thanks.

Answer:
There's room for everything. If you want to make $10 million a year, obviously you'll need a larger audience, or a small one with a lot of money. If you want to make $100K per year, you probably only need 1000 customers. What you should really focus on is identifying where you can best provide value to the world and the BIG idea that you can use to communicate your message. Once you do that, $100K is simple, and $1Million is possible (within a few years).

Q: I am hoping to move my business to online. What sorts of resources can you suggest for website build and development. I currently have been using E-lance.com. Would you also suggest some school courses in SEO and web design etc, or would you just outsource?

Answer:
Outsource everything. Focus on making sales and get others to do the rest. Elance, Odesk.com, Guru.com, and even some stuff from Fiverr.com will help you get started. We cover a lot of this in Financial Independence Monthly.

Q: What's a good way for creative types (writers) to clear their head between projects, especially when juggling two or three things per day that require a "clean slate" mind to be most productive?

Answer:
Rituals. For example, when its time to finish working on one project and move to another, do a brain dump (write down everything in your head), then take a 5-10 minute break, and come back to your desk as if you were just starting the day again. Perhaps there is something you could read related to the new topic as soon as you sit down.

Q: What is the best way to deal with the issues of perfectionism and procrastination?

Answer:
The only thing that beats procrastination is action. It's really that simple. In order to get something done, you must first get started. That's it. It's painful and dreadful, but there is no easy-button solution. But those are small issues compared to real problems. You can and will overcome those and they will NOT hold you back from success.

Q: I get overwhelmed by everything I wish to accomplish in a day, and then I am angry and discouraged with myself for not being as productive as I should (and can) be. It's really, really frustrating. I am capable of so much more than I am accomplishing right now.

Answer:
Start your day by doing 90 minutes of focused work on the ONE major project that will have the greatest impact on your life. Celebrate that success. Listen, you have to stop trying to do a million things and understand that you just can't go on with that approach. Prioritize and attack your top priorities. Let the minor things slide. Every day try to get better and better at this approach. You MUST move towards prioritization. We all must. We are all running out of time to make an impact. Focus, focus, focus.

Q: I'm looking for perfection with the stuff that I do, and that paralyzes the starting process. Any advice to get over the fact that starting something won't be perfect?

Answer:
NOTHING is perfect. God created the world and look at all the problems down here. You're not going to do better. The sooner you get over it, the better. Sorry if you find this harsh, but you need to let it go. You will never, ever, ever, ever, ever get to where you want to go if you demand perfection. Just get out there and get something done and make it better as you go along.

Today's Kickbutt Mindset Tips
Be proud of yourself for taking action, getting out of your comfort zones, and getting closer to the business and life of your dreams. It's your life and doing the right thing is more important than what other people think or say about you. Stay strong. Get stronger.

So much can be accomplished with a long term vision and resilience to short term setbacks. Not every problem is conquered overnight, but if you persist and never give in, you will succeed.

Terrible Ab Exercises

On Sunday morning at the gym, I watched a girl do two separate weighted side bend type exercises, as well as crunches and V-ups.

You probably couldn't pick four worse exercises for six-pack abs and a flat stomach.

In contrast, my abs, seen all over the world (and even 'stolen' by magazines and equipment companies to promote their products) are chiseled with stability ball rollouts, cross-body mountain climbers, and more of my best ab exercises, like the ones you'll find here:

=> The Best Abs Workouts

To get sexy abs you don't need useless crunches and side bends like that poor girl was using on Sunday morning. Sadly, she remains a long way from her goals...and will likely never achieve the body she wants with crunches and cardio.

But neither will men, either. As new TT member Justin wrote on my blog, "I've been a victim of long cardio for too long."

It's time to change.

If you want to get the results I have, your solution is the TT for Abs Home Workout for just $7 here.

You'll get 12 weeks of advanced TT fat burning workouts with proven six pack abs exercises.

But hurry, this special offer ends on Thursday at midnight.

These workouts are perfect for the 14th TT Transformation Contest - and might help you win $1000 just for losing belly fat and getting in the best shape of your life.

Today's Kickbutt Mindset Tips:
To find a mentor: Figure out what you want to achieve, find someone who has done that already, study them to make sure they fit your values, and then do something good for them. Spread their word. Then contact them and tell them how they have helped you. Then invest in whatever mentoring opportunity they have.

To stay focused: You need to identify what is most important to you. You need to create a vision for your life and use that vision to guide your actions. Watch this video for help - www.anewamericandream.com

Fitness and Focus QnA

My training today: Jumps, deadlifts, front squats, good mornings, kb swings.

Followed by a big fitness and focus QnA session on Facebook.

First, from www.TurbulenceTrainingFanpage.com

Q: I follow a 3 days full body workout. For my days off I would like to do some conditioning work which I could do with my bodyweight at home..What are some good 15 minute drills I could do with no equipment needed?

Answer:
Check out this program
- http://www.turbulencetraining.com/workouts/2010/june2010_bwcardio.shtml

Q: Craig, for my shoulder workout I do seated shoulder press, seated lat raises, incline bench Flyes for rear Delts, DB shrugs and DB front raises.

Answer:
It's a good workout for a pro bodybuilder on steroids. For you, it's probably going to lead to a shoulder overuse injury. You can cut the lateral and front raises.

Q: I have a lot of experience teaching and working out, but getting certified can cost hundreds or thousands of dollars. Can I just train people based on experience?

Answer:
I think you need to read your question and take a good hard look at what you are planning to do. To me, if you're not dedicated enough to invest in your education, then how could anyone recommend you as a trainer?

And then over to MailScanner has detected a possible fraud attempt from "www.cbathletics.com" claiming to be www.Facebook.com/TheNewEarlytoRise

Q: How do you maintain focus? I'm a polymath, and it can be a challenge to see things through. I struggle staying focused on a single project.

Answer:
You need to identify what is most important to you. You need to create a vision for your life and use that vision to guide your actions. Watch this video for help
- www.anewamericandream.com

Q: What, in your opinion, is the best way to find a mentor?

Answer:
Figure out what you want to achieve, find someone who has done that already, study them to make sure they fit your values, and then do something good for them. Spread their word. Then contact them and tell them how they have helped you. Then invest in whatever mentoring opportunity they have.

Q: I am not a morning person, but I love the idea of getting up an hour before my wife and kids and using that time to work on my Internet business/writing. Any tips on developing the habit of waking and getting out of bed early?

Answer:
Go to bed early, set an alarm, and just do it. You'll get better with practice. No magic answers, sorry.

Today's Kickbutt Mindset Tips:
Know what you want to get done. Know when you work best. Get one big thing done early in the day. Do not let others get in your way. Own the day.

"I will do this" is the only attitude that works. "I'll try" or "I think" doesn't work. - Kekich Credo #76.....Don't let the fear of failure stop you from achieving the success you deserve.

22,000 crunches

According to Men's Health magazine, it takes more than 22,000 crunches to burn a pound of belly fat.

So you'll never get a flat stomach or six pack abs while crunching away on the ground.

On the other hand, crunches can literally be a pain in the neck - and low back.

So give them up.

What should you do instead?

Try this scientifically-formulated at-home metabolic resistance abs program for only $7:

For this week only you can get a complete 12-week TT for Abs workout blueprint for just $7.

Bodyweight Cardio

Woke up full of energy and ready to go, so I tested out the June TT Bodyweight Cardio 5 program in my hotel room. Had a great time at Jay Ferruggia's wedding last night with Alwyn & Rachel Cosgrove, Zach Even-Esh, John Alvino, Keith & Lisa Scott, and of course, Jay and Jen. It was quite the party.

Back to Toronto this morning. Gotta get ready for a big week at Turbulence Training.

It starts tomorrow...Turbulence Training Transformation Contest #14. Your chance to win $1000 - www.TransformationContest.com/rules

Yesterday was a great day in Jersey, too.

Renegade Gym workout with Jay and Rachel and Alwyn Cosgrove. Upper body plus prowler pushes. And then Jay made us all go out for a bit of a weird post-training meal.

And before that, Jay and I also went to the mall this morning. Can't go to Jersey without going to the mall.

Nutrition and Productivity and Time Management

Going to train at Renegade Gym with Jay Ferruggia today. If it's any good, I'll let you know what we did.

In the meantime, here's a good nutrition resource for you:

- MailScanner has detected a possible fraud attempt from "www.cbathletics.com" claiming to be www.turbulencetraining.com/freemealplans

Now for some Facebook QnA:

Q: What's your preferred method of intermittent fasting?

Answer:
TT users prefer Eat Stop Eat. Personally, I just don't like to fast. I don't need to, so I rarely, rarely go more than 12 hours without food. If I had to use a plan myself, I'd do one of those 18-6 plans.

Q: What are your best productivity tips?

Answer:
First, identify your priorities. Second, play your day. Third, make sure that you are working on highest priority projects when you are most productive/creative. Fourth, eliminate distractions. hope that helps.

Q: What systems do you use to manage social media? How can you be engaging while not totally consumed by all the channels?

Answer:
Just set a time to use it and that's it. I post my quotes, do my QnAs, and then that's it. If something comes up that's really timely, I can jump on and off in seconds with my phone. Or if I'm stuck in a cab, i'll check it. But it's very, very, very easy to limit social media. And you should, because it's a POOR use of most people's time.

Q: What are 3 books that changed your life?

Answer:
My book recommendations are here
- http://www.earlytorise.com/mentor/

And here's one that will change yours. It's my new Time Management book:

Off to Jersey

My training today (easy week starts today) - Jumps, squats, bulgarian split squats, glute ham raises.

Tomorrow I'll be visiting Jay Ferruggia's Renegade Gym in New Jersey.

Today's Q'n'A from MailScanner has detected a possible fraud attempt from "www.cbathletics.com" claiming to be www.facebook.com/thenewearlytorise

Q: How do you develop a success mindset? - Darren

Answer:
If you need help with that, please read Psycho-Cybernetics. Get the version edited by Dan Kennedy. You just need to truly believe in yourself.

Q: How do I overcome resistance? - Julio

Answer:
Hi Julio, I wrote an article on this topic here

Q: What's the best way to sustain efforts to achieve a desired goal. I noticed I am only good at starting projects but not in completing them. What do you think should I do?

Answer:
You must identify what is important to you. If these projects are important, then you must find the motivation and desire within you to complete them. Give yourself urgency and a deadline.

Tabata Training Clarification

My training today: Military press, Pulldowns, Pushups, T-bar row, DB triceps extensions, WYLIT, band pulls. Crazy lat/upper back pump.

Now onto our QnA featuring some fitness dogma that I had to clarify.

Q: Ok Craig, my question(s)... a while back you mentioned you did a workout on a bike... was that a stationary or actual road/mountain bike? What kind of workout did you do? I'm assuming it was an interval program and I was wondering how effective an actual road bike is for the interval training you endorse... i.e. Tabata style. Thanks!

Answer:
First, just to clear things up, Tabata training is done on a treadmill at 170% VO2 max. Just because someone does something for 20 seconds does NOT make it Tabata training. It just means they did something for 20 seconds.

Second, I used stationary bike intervals, as recommended in Turbulence Training.

By the way, there is no 'best' interval duration for fat loss. There are theories that 8 seconds on, 12 seconds off, repeated for 20 minutes is best, but that is impractical for most machines.

In addition, the Tabata method has never been used in a fat loss study.

Please don't make any interval training into a magic bullet. For fat loss,
there's really been no comparisons against one another.

But we do know that intervals work better than slow cardio.

Q: Three best ab exercises?

Answer:
First, I dislike these types of questions. Almost as bad as the, "If you only could only do one exercise..." questions.

Alright, my answer: First, everyone should be able to do a plank for 2 minutes straight. Second, then it depends on the person's goals, abilities, etc. If you're thinking six pack abs, just remember a six-pack depends mostly on low body fat levels.

Now over to our MailScanner has detected a possible fraud attempt from "www.cbathletics.com" claiming to be www.Facebook.com/TheNewEarlytoRise QnA on living a better life:

Q: How to deal with distractions like social media, telephones emails etc?

Answer:
You need to have rules for your life and you need to control your environment. Your phone/Internet do not need to be on all the time. Here are my rules to help you make yours
- http://www.earlytorise.com/12-rules/

Also, here are more politically incorrect time management tips
- http://www.earlytorise.com/time-management-tips/

Q: How can I excel at my work? I aim to be the best.

Answer:
The fastest way to get better at something is to get a mentor. Identify the person in your field that you admire the most and start building a relationship with them.

Q: how to feel more fired up about life?

Answer:
Life is amazing. Just look at all of the beauty and opportunity in the world. It's almost unbelievable that we have televisions, airplanes, computerized cars, and prosthetics that allow people to almost qualify for the olympics (google Oscar Pistorius), not too mention trees, blue skies, flowers, and rainbows. And don't forget wine and chocolate. Need I continue? Create the desire within yourself to make you TAKE ACTION to satisfy your needs and wants. Motivation and inspiration can truly only come from within.

Q: I'm trying to create a scripted day to follow the next 100 days but I have lots of family coming to stay with me for weeks at a time over that period. My family lives about 2500 miles from me, so these visits only happen every few years. I constantly struggle with how I maximize rare opportunities like that, while also protecting the time I need to spend on my business.

Answer:
Get up earlier. It's the answer to almost every time management problem in life. Also, identify your magic time, and book an appointment with yourself. That's when you'll get 3x's the amount of work done as you would at any other time of the day. Those two strategies will help you be as productive as normal - if not more productive - while family are visiting, all while still having enough time for them.

Q: How to end procrastination?

Answer:
Just start taking action. There's no other answer. The only way to stop NOT doing something is to start doing it.

Failure means you've stopped. So don't stop. Keep at it. The more you move in the right direction towards success, the better you'll feel. Every day work on making new positive habits into automatic activities. Stay strong. Get stronger.

Fitness and Inspiration QnA Day

Excellent QnA sessions on my Facebook pages today.

Here are some of the best fitness and inspiration topics we discussed:

Q: Is it true crunches don't burn belly fat?

Answer:
According to men's health magazine it takes 22,000 crunches to burn a pound of belly fat. They are a waste of your time.

Instead, use Metabolic resistance training and interval training.

Q: Whats your opinion on consuming fats and carbs in the same meal? Do you agree the insulin spike can cause immediate fat storage?

Answer:
I don't think it is a problem. Just don't eat crap. You don't have to drive yourself crazy isolating nutrients at a meal.

Q: Best hand position to work lats when doing inverted rows? and i guess elbow position as well?

Answer:
Using straps with hands in neutral position. Or underhand grip using a bar.

Q: Questions about close grip bench press: how close should my hand be to each other, and is there typically a weight difference between it and a regular bench press?

Answer:
You'll be 25% weaker or more. Shoulder width.

Q: Just curious about your time management and workflow for your blog posts and newsletters? When do you write them? who edits? how far in advance are they written?

Answer:
I do most of my writing first thing in the morning. There's not a lot of editing that goes into my work...not that it couldn't be made a little better by having an editor, but we just don't have that in place yet. Some stuff is written two weeks in advance, others 30 minutes.

Q: What makes you excited when you are almost down?

Answer:
The future. Also, my network. I always think about how it would disappoint people in my network if I quit. I include my readers in there. A lot of readers look to ETR and my fitness business for good advice, I can't let them down. It doesn't matter if you have 10 readers or 10,000, I think that is a good perspective.

Q: What would you have done differently if you were to start life again and you are 20?

Answer:
I'd have searched out more mentors earlier in life...rather than just relying on books. I'd have drank less alcohol. I'd have gotten bigger and stronger when it was easier. BUT...having said all that, there aren't a lot of big things I'd change. I chose the right schooling and the right path (though less popular)...and that, as they say, has made all the difference.

Q: What is the the most inspiring action drivin, and success focused book that is an absolute must read?? (in your opinion?)

Answer:
You probably won't like my answer because what inspires me is unlikely to inspire you. For me, it's "Man's Search For Meaning" by Viktor Frankl. I'm also finishing a book called, "And All Hell Let Loose" that has had a similar impact.

Today's Kickbutt Mindset Tips:
Failure isn't bad. Failure isn't final. If there is one thing I know after having observed this crazy world for 36 years, it's that you can SURVIVE almost anything and come back better and stronger than ever before. Don't let the fear of failure stop you from achieving the success you deserve.

"Success comes in a lot of ways, but it doesn't come with money and it doesn't come with fame. It comes from having a meaning in your life, doing what you love and being passionate about what you do. That's having a life of success. When you have the ability to do what you love, love what you do and have the ability to impact people. … That's having a life of success. That's what having a life of meaning is." – Tim Tebow

Remember: People want to follow passionate people. Passion requires personality. Don't hold back.

Today's www.InternetIndependence.com Tip:
You only get paid for done. All the planning in the world is no good if you don't follow through. Take action today and follow-through.

How to live life well

Recent research published in Applied Physiology Nutrition and Metabolism found that we can increase anaerobic energy expenditure and post-exercise oxygen consumption by using longer lifting tempos for a given number of repetitions. We've increased the time under tension for certain exercises and you're going to feel it in your metabolic response and fat loss to this new TT MRT 2.0 (now available to members at www.TTmembers.com).

(Appl Physiol Nutr Metab. 2012 Mar 8. The effect of time-under-tension and weight lifting cadence on aerobic, anaerobic, and recovery energy expenditures: 3 submaximal sets.Scott CB.)

That's the power of metabolic workouts.

Yet still people want to believe in metabolism boosting pills. I can assure you, none of these work for fat loss.

Fat burners do not help fat loss. Show me a study on any commercial fat burner that proves me wrong. Have you ever taken a pill that comes anywhere close to the effects of exercise? Give me a break. The reason ECA worked in the past was because it was an appetite suppressant, not a metabolic stimulator.

Today's Kickbutt Mindset Tips:
If you feel like you're spinning your wheels and not making any progress, one solution is to put more urgency into your life. Here's what you need to do. First, identify what it is that you truly want to accomplish. Second, outline what you need to do to get there. And third, give yourself a deadline. (Bonus fourth step: Cut that deadline by 20%. Don't worry, you'll reach it.) These steps are simple, but effective, because they combine the power of a vision with the urgency of a deadline.

If you want to get lean, hang around lean people. If you want to get strong, hang around strong people. Who are you hanging around with?

Admit to – and learn from – your mistakes. Mistakes must be viewed positively…because with the knowledge you gain from them, you are able to achieve the best things in your life. Without the lows in life, the highs would never really seem that high.

"With the past, I have nothing to do; nor with the future. I live now." – Ralph Waldo Emerson

And today's Live Well Lived Wisdom from the QnA sessions over at MailScanner has detected a possible fraud attempt from "www.cbathletics.com" claiming to be www.Facebook.comTheNewEarlytoRise :

Q: What is it that truly makes people successful? What one thing would you recommend to people that if they did nothing else but "this" they be on their way to becoming successful? Of course, success is defined differently by each one of use, but you know what I mean. - Terry

My Answer:
The ability to continue working when it feels like everything is going wrong. That and a big idea. Great question.

Q: Is there a notebook or app that would help to structure my daily routine to focus on most important tasks? - John

My Answer:
I fear you are complicating things. All you need is a list of top 1-3 priorities for each day. Attack those. Identify your magic time and guard it. Use your magic time for greatest attack on priorities.

Q: I have a problem that I'm already in a stage where i am very comfortable. I've 3 kids, I'm semi retired in a teaching job that pays me a $100000 per year salary, I have a million worth of assets plus savings. I want to achieve more but some how I can't seem to reach for more because I'm already so comfortable. I'm only 37. I like to ask for your perspective on how I can increase my level of "must haves" so my standards can increase even more. Thank you so much.

My Answer:
That's a great question and I have moments like this myself.

The answer can only come from within. There must be an internal motivation - that is the answer for all progress and self improvement.

I suggest thinking about the longview, the legacy you may want to leave behind, the life lessons you want to teach your children, and what really matters to you.

Go through the vision exercise we have at www.ANewAmericanDream.com.

And if all that positivity doesn't help you, just realize that the current economic environment has the potential to get much worse, and it may be one day a million dollars doesn't go too far.

BUT, most importantly, spend a great deal of time thinking about what you can do that is BIGGER than you. What mission can you accomplish that would be important to you, and the world. Good luck, and let us know what you choose.

PS - I've devoted myself to transforming the lives of 1 Million people. And I've told the world about it. That lights a fire under my butt everyday. Made a video about it here - www.turbulencetrainingcertification.com

Q: Good morning! Do you have any suggestions for books/practices to help with staying positive? I am working on getting better at keeping others'' emotions from bringing me down. There are times though, especially when I'm fatigued where I allow a sad or negative emotional interaction with a client or friend to get me down. I am using psycho cybernetics but any recommendations would help. I need to be able to listen without feeling so much. - Megan

My Answer:
First, congrats to you for working so hard on this. Second, kudos for getting Psycho-Cybernetics.

Third, it's a tough question...everyone has different forms of motivation/inspiration for staying positive. You might like some of the courses at www.MindValley.com.

ETR readers have given me great feedback on their courses, and Matt Smith and I just visited their company. It's really positive. On that note, spend as much time as possible with positive people.

Great question, and I'll do more digging around for ideas to share in an ETR article.

Personally, I always think of how lucky I am to have been born into the easy life that I have...and frankly, compared to history, almost everyone in the Western world is living in a time when our lives are exponentially easier and better than the lives of kings and queens just 200 years ago. I think about that some times.

Q: Hello, what tips to you have to handle email? I normally start my workdays by opening up my email inbox and that tends to dictate my day. Your thoughts? Ideas? Thanks! - Ed

My Answer:
Fight that email. Don't open that inbox. I wrote an article here:

Bottom line: Fight for every minute before you open your inbox each day. I don't open mine until after 10am...at least 6 hours after I've been awake.

When you're feeling down about your progress, nothing cheers you up like action. It allows you to focus on the positive potential of what is possible. The salve for your wounds is to focus on what you can do. Take action on what matters. It's the cure for what ails you.

No magic nutrition tips

My training today: Squats, Jumps, Glute Ham Raise, Torso training. Bike ride to and from gym. Pre-training dog walk.

Legs are tired.

Here's a simple circuit I gave to a client yesterday: Box Jumps, Sprinter Step-ups, Stability Ball Leg Curls, Spiderman Pushups, Kettlebell Swings.

Oh, and for TT Platinum Members, I've updated the site with the new TT Xtreme Deeper Depletion program. It's the bonus I've giving away for the Xtreme Fat Loss Diet Release on May 1st. But Platinum members get it free and early.

Over on www.TurbulenceTrainingFanpage.com, during today's QnA, lots of folks were looking for magic answers to their nutrition questions.

But I have none because there are none.

Nutrition in 7 words: "Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants." - Michael Pollan

CLA is a waste of money. Whey protein is whey protein is whey protein. Creatine is creatine is creatine. There's no magic pre-workout foods unless you need 100mg of caffeine.

Cool?

Cool.

Today's Kickbutt Mindset Tip:
"Instead of putting others down, try improving yourself instead. The only person you have a right to compete with is YOU. In the meantime, treat others how you'd like to be treated. One trait that some of the best (communicators) share is EMPATHY. A couple of kind words can not only make a person's day, but earn you a friend and supporter for life. For the rest of the week, whenever you see someone you want to judge negatively, pay them a compliment instead. See what happens." – Neil Strauss

If Dr. Evil was a trainer

So my favorite line from the Austin Powers movies is where Dr. Evil says:

"It's DR. Evil...I didn't go to six years of evil medical school to be called Mr., thank you very much."

Likewise...I didn't go six years of college (for my Master's Degree) and spend over a decade in the gym training folks to keep my workouts to myself.

That's why I put together this video session from last year's 1st ever Turbulence Training Summit that shows you how I design MRT workouts.

Watch the full session here for free

We talk about bodybuilder training, athlete workouts, bodyweight exercises, and EVERYTHING that has gone into the legendary Metabolic Resistance Training system.

You'll see the methods behind my metabolic madness.

Craig Ballantyne, CTT

PS - I'm taking this video down on Thursday.

Make sure to watch it ASAP.

How I design workout programs

No lifting for me today. Squat workout tomorrow. And big dog walk in an hour.

Simple circuit gave to a client today: Box Jumps, Sprinter Step-ups, Stability Ball Leg Curls, Spiderman Pushups, Kettlebell Swings.

Why is it done like that?

Well, make sure to watch my program design presentation here
- http://www.TTSummit.com/howto

FB Question: For optimal size and growth of a muscle how many times should a particular muscle group be trained in one week? I.E shoulder 1,2,3 times per week for hypertrophy?

Answer:
4 days is enough training. Two upper and two lower sessions per week. In reality, it's more like 3.5 workouts per week, because its hard to jusify a full 2nd lower body workout.

FB Q: Why are bench press machines lighter than free weight benches? and are there any advantages of using onerather than the other for building mass?

Answer:
Don't use bench press machines. I can't think of one good reason to use them over dumbbells and bodyweight exercises. They are shoulder injuries waiting to happen.

The Winner's Mindset

Taking the path less traveled, against my inner resistance and excuses, has made all the difference.

It all starts with the Mindset.

Here's an awesome video on the winner's mindset from Bedros at the TT Summit last year

It's the people around us who shape us (literally) and our behavior. Ask the BIG question - "What do you want to achieve in life?" And then think, are the people I'm hanging around helping me achieve this?

Always remember the golden rule (make's life so simple): Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.

For Trainers

Good week? Great week? Frustrating week?

I hope it was awesome, full of amazing workouts, new clients, referrals,
and gratitude for the change you are making in people's lives.

If it wasn't such a great week, here's how I can help.

On June 22nd, the two top fitness industry business experts are
going to be in San Diego, California, sharing exclusive, NEW
secrets on how to get more clients and live the life you deserve.

I've invested a lot of money to get these guys down there for
your benefit, and it's literally going to be a life-changing event.

You see, both Bedros and Alwyn have overcome MASSIVE
obstacles standing in their way of success.

At one point, Bedros lived out of a pick-up truck after his first
fitness business went broke. But he changed his mindset, got
a mentor, and has gone on to build - and then sell - a series of
personal training studios in California.

He now runs the most popular bootcamp franchise in the world
and teaches over 40,000 trainers how to grow their business.

Alwyn has had some bad days too. In fact, he's had to beat
cancer TWICE, and yet he had set up his business to take care
of himself financially despite being in the hospital for months
at a time.

If you want to discover the secrets to overcoming obstacles, to
building the business and life of your dreams, then join us
in San Diego in June.

I guarantee it will be the best single day devoted to your
fitness business ever.

Plus, I'll be showing you my time management secrets that will
TRIPLE your productivity, and then on Saturday, June 23rd, I
will show you the exercise I've used to get EXACTLY what I've
always wanted in life.

So, let's summarize:

Bedros Keuilian - Check.
Alwyn Cosgrove - Check.
Craig Ballantyne - Check.

You getting EXACTLY what you want out of life - ?

It's up to you.

Join us at the 2nd Turbulence Training Summit if you want
to check that off your list.

Even coaches get coaches

At some point it will be up to you – and only you – to make the decisions on how to live. Whether it is who to vote for, what diet to follow, career to choose, what expert to listen to, or what to believe about the economy.

There will never be an area of life where every 'expert' is in consensus, not in health, not in real estate, and not in fixing the economy. And that's good news. Because it gives you the opportunity to choose what is right for you.

If you want to change, consider entering the 14th TT Transformation Contest (starts on Sunday, May 6th).

In the meantime, please join me in congratulating the winners of the 13th TT Transformation Contest:

European Bodyweight Workout

Last summer I was off on a European Vacation (look kids, Big Ben,
parliament) for 10 days, so that meant lots of bodyweight workouts.

Every summer I meet some friends in Lithuania and we teach entrepreneurship to dozens of kids from all over the world. It's
really cool, and then we do some bodyweight workouts at the end of the day before we go swimming.

(And sometimes we have epic tug-of-war matches.)

Here's one of the bodyweight workouts we did:

1) Warm-up:

- Prisoner Squats

Fitness Summit Videos

Legs. Are. Sore. Yesterday's squat workout did a number of my quads, so no training for me today. Did an extra dog walk and stretching instead.

For trainers...the fitness business summit videos are now available. It was an amazing weekend and you can relive it here:

You'll see Bedros, RONNIE COLEMAN, Joel Marion, Mike Whitfield, the women's fitness trainer panel, and a lot more - including my late night presentation with the beers delivery

Today's Kickbutt Mindset Tips:
"Real regrets only come from not doing your best. All else is out of your control. You're measured by results only. Do more than is expected of you. Life's easy when you live it the hard way…and hard if you try to live it the easy way.' - Kekich Credo #4

"Enjoy life. Treat it as an adventure. Care passionately about the outcome, but keep it in perspective. Things are seldom as bleak as they seem when they are going wrong – or as good as they seem when they are going well. Lighten up. You'll live longer." Kekich Credo #55

Make your plan. Stick to it. Don't let others guilt you into a decision that you will not be happy with.

14th TT Contest Details

Voting for the 13th TT Transformation Contest is almost done, and we'll be announcing the winners latest this week. Lots of folks are asking about the next contest, so here are the details.

Advanced notice: 14th TT Contest starts on Sunday, May 6th.

Rules here - http://www.transformationcontest.com/rules.shtml

My training today: Squats, jumps, good mornings, ball leg curls, ball planks. Throw in a couple of dog walks too.

Today's Kickbutt Mindset Tips:
People want to be involved with other confident people who are doing big things and being positive and powerful. Be out there doing something great today.

If you're a trainer, then you'll want to meet the good people who spoke at FBS 2012. And you can, here:

Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you've imagined." – Henry David Thoreau

And overcome your fear of failure:

"When something in life occurs that is troubling, we are supposed to not dwell on the thing itself. Instead, the focus should be on our obligation to turn this bad thing into something beautiful. It's not easy. But, if you focus your creative energy away from self torture and onto 'how you can turn this into something beautiful' pretty remarkable things start to happen." - Matt Smith

"Be willing to take action. Do not expect to sit on your hands and let the world come to you just because you think you have a great idea. Nobody owes you anything. If you want results, you have to take action and invest in relationships." – Simon Black

You can move mountains

My friend Jimmy Sweeney wrote, "When a person becomes crystal CLEAR as to exactly what they want to accomplish, and FOCUSES their time and energy on this ONE goal, any person can move mountains."

I like that quote.

And here's proof of what people can do in the fat loss world.

Finalists for the latest TT Transformation Contest - Please vote before Monday at 9pm EST:

As always, I'm amazed by what TT and 24-7 Fat Loss clients have been able to accomplish when they've set their sites on a big goal. Congratulations to everyone.

Today's Kickbutt Mindset Tips:
I needed this one today..."Life's challenges are not supposed to paralyze you, they're supposed to help you discover who you are." - Bernice J. Reagon

"What if you kept going? What if you dismissed your genetics and all the other excuses and just kept at it and kept working hard?" – Alwyn Cosgrove...

...What could you accomplish if you decided not to quit and to keep fighting instead?

Keep going,
