Create the desire within yourself to make you TAKE ACTION to satisfy your needs and wants. Motivation and inspiration can truly only come from within.
Just do it. It’s less painful to do it than it is to sit around and think about it or feel guilty that you haven’t started yet. Once you get started, things will get done.

Starting a new 4 week program this week, and so the first few workouts are with slightly less weight.
Today was 3 types of squats.
First, light and fast. Eight sets of two reps with 135 pounds.
Second, traditional heavy powerlifting squats.
Third, high bar, Olympic squats for volume (4x10).
Followed by pullups, leg curls, and cable abs.

Now I know some potential TT Trainers had questions about
the TT Certification, so here they are with my answers:
Q - "Hi Craig, I run a boot camp and am considering your
TT certification. We do mostly body weight and some
kettlebells...is equipment other than that necessary? Space
is an issue. Thanks." - Kristina
Answer:
Hi Kristina, thanks for your question and interest. There
will be no problem. The certification shows you how to get
better results for your clients no matter what - and shows
you how to get more clients too.
Q - "Hi Craig, any plans to extend this certification within
Asia?" - Francisco
Answer:
Francisco, there is no geographical limitation. Everything
is done by online video, so you can get started immediately,
no matter where you are in the world.
Q - "How does the cert work are there exams/tests etc after
watching the DVDs?" - Lisa
Answer:
Yes Lisa, there is a 3-part exam. The first part is multiple
choice, the second is 5 essay questions, and the 3rd part
is an 8-week fat loss program design choosing from one of
three case studies. I will mark all of these personally.
Looking forward to yours.
Q - "So, what is the time line on this? How long will it take
to learn the program, prepare for, and take the exam? Can I
do this on a part-time basis? Is there still room?" - Shelley
Answer:
Hi Shelley, there is still room, but the Certification is
closing down tonight so I can work with the new trainers
and mark their exams - it takes a while.
As for the exam, there is about 15 hours worth of video to
watch. You can do this on your own schedule and then submit
the exam and program design that must be completed.
Alright, that's it for now, I think. Really excited to work
with you on this.

Get up and Grind
Yesterday I did an experimental bodyweight circuit training session.
This was done for the upcoming "TT Grinding" program. In honor of Ray Lewis and his "Rise and Grind" tweets. I even invented a new tempo for pushups that you'll love. Stay tuned.
Today, I'll either try another experimental bodyweight workout outside in the Tampa sunshine, or I'll head to a local LA Fitness for an experimental squat session.
Always learning, right?
Why?

Later today I head back to Toronto, but yesterday we got out on the Jet Skis down here (my first time, I grew up a snowmobiler, not a jet skier). It was a great time. Fast too, hitting 66mph on the smooth water, but it was even more fun going 20 mph over the choppy waves out on the Gulf of Mexico. Fun times.
Hope you had a great weekend...now let's Rise and Grind.

No Equipment Workout and No Dairy Diet
It will be a NO equipment bodyweight circuit for me today.
Going to get through 250 bodyweight squats, 100 cross body mountain climbers, hopefully some TRX rows, and few other moves.
(Oh, and hopefully do all of this outside in Joel Marion's backyard in the St. Pete's sunshine).
Here's another FREE no-equipment bodyweight circuit workout for you
- http://www.turbulencetraining.com/bw400giftforyou
Now Joel's is a great place to be this weekend for an outside workout. Much better than Toronto. Plus, yesterday we had a birthday party for his daughter, and yes, there was a bouncy castle and pony rides. Pretty amazing. You can see some funny photos at:
www.TurbulenceTrainingFanpage.com
However...
The Italian dinner feast (at Joel's house last night) was not a great place to be when you're on a gluten-free, dairy-free diet. Ha!
Birthday cake was clearly not on the menu for me.
Am I missing out?
I don't feel like it.
Others might. But I'm over it.
Fortunately I don't get crazy cravings for any foods.
Would it have been nice to have some cake? Sure. Did I still have an amazing time? Yes.
However, if I HAD eaten the cake (or the chicken parm), my fingers would have swollen up. You can read more about my "Reynaud's issue" here:
So the negatives of the bad food outweigh the positives of eating it. That's just the way it is. No big deal. There are plenty of healthy, delicious foods that I can eat. And it's easier to stay ripped and have high energy levels all the time this way.
Don't get me wrong, there are mornings that I'd love to have a bowl of cereal. But my blender drinks rock, so I'm surviving and thriving.
As for dinner last night, honestly, I wish we had went out for steak, but it just didn't turn out that way. Hopefully tonight. So that's my weekend update, hope you are enjoying yours.
Today's Kickbutt Mindset Tip:
Quit procrastinating. Quit spending your energy on little things. Quit letting little limitations stand in the way of BIG breakthroughs.

The Ten Million Transformation Mission
Yesterday morning Joel Marion and I drove from St. Petersburg over to
the legendary PowerHouse Gym in Tampa, Florida. We had an amazing
metabolic meathead workout (will share tomorrow).
Craig Ballantyne, CTT
Certified Turbulence Trainer
Anyways, I'm really hoping there will be pony rides at this party. We'll see.
Have a great day and I'll be back with two AWESOME workouts tomorrow.
On the drive over, Joel asked me about the future of Turbulence Training.
For the next 10 minutes I explained how my focus in 2013 focus will
be on filming more follow-along workout videos (bodyweight and
dumbbell). It's going to be an awesome year - so glad you are here for it.
But your success, and the future of Turbulence Training, all starts
with a mission...powered by an event that happened to me at age 4.
That's right. I do what I do all because of something that happened
over 33 years ago. That moment has stuck with me all these years and is
driving me to help TEN Million men and women transform their lives by
2020.
I filmed a video on this Mission here <= why I do what I do
Now I must apologize for two things in the video. First, the
lighting isn't great (all future videos will be 10x's better!). And
second, I mention a "ONE" million mission in the video...
...but just last weekend I decided to think BIGGER. I added a zero.
Turbulence Training is going to help 10 Million men and women, just
like you, to get lean, look sexy, burn fat, and build muscle.
I'm dedicated to this mission. And you can help.
Thank you so much for being a part of all of this. All of your
support, feedback, suggestions, and love for Bally the Dog is greatly
appreciated.
We're all in this together. Turbulence Training will be with you every step, every set, and every rep of the way.
Tomorrow I'll be back with one of my most inspirational articles
ever...and two workouts for you to kick-start your amazing week.
Stay strong my friend,
Craig Ballantyne, CTT
Certified Turbulence Trainer
PS - Time to celebrate...
...It's Lily Marionz 2nd birthday today. I came all the way down
from Toronto for this and left Bally the Dog with a new dogsitter (he
had to pass a "try-out" with them the other night...and almost failed
because he was so excited...he's such a goof).
Anyways, I'm really hoping there will be pony rides at this party. We'll see.
Turbulent Trip to Tampa
Hilarious morning. Down here in St. Pete's, Florida, sitting in Joel Marion's kitchen working at 5:30am while our friend Beth bakes a birthday cake for Joel's daughter's party today.
Photo - www.TurbulenceTrainingFanpage.com
Beth has been up all night baking and I've been up since 4:30am writing motivational articles (even though my flight was delayed and I didn't get to sleep until nearly midnight).
Two dedicated folks on extremely different tasks.
Heading for a workout with Joel at Powerhouse Gym later.
What's your plan for the day?
Back to my time management and work schedule...
Sure enough, the old saying is true. "You plan, and God laughs". Ironically, the same day that I shared my daily habit ritual, the one where I describe my monk like, workman’s approach to the morning hours and my writing craft, a time management and sleep schedule disaster struck.
My flight down here to Tampa was delayed 4 hours, and then after 2 hours of socializing, I finally got to bed just before midnight. But I was still up at 4:30 am today - sticking to the power of habit.
It didn’t break my stride. I stuck to my plan, supported by my vision and mission, and had one of my most productive mornings of the week the next day.
I will have a nap later and get back on a regular schedule tomorrow night...as tonight will also keep me up late.
Keep working on your habits!
Usually, here's how things go...
My day begins each morning, when I’m home in Toronto, between 3:30 and 4 a.m. I slip stealthily from under the covers and drape my feet over the edge of the bed.
Bally the Dog, alert to my slightest of movements, takes this as his cue to get up from his mat. He wanders over from the corner of the bedroom to my side for a early morning petting. I vigorously rub his back in that one area that for some reason turns his tail wagging up to a ludicrous speed. This goes on for about a minute before he turns around, plenty satisfied. Time to return to his homemade bed for another three hours of doggy dreaming.

Get Up for Success
Up early today. Started with writing, then will hit a deadlift workout.
Workout: Hang Clean, Deadlift, Good Morning, Military Press.
Then back to work.
Finally, off to the airport after lunch and heading to Tampa and Miami for the weekend to celebrate a birthday with friends (not mine, though). Also hoping to film some workout videos and connect with fitness experts like Dan Long of www.SuspensionRevolution.com
What matters today is that you read this.
"How I get so much done (personal info)"

Today's Kickbutt Mindset Tips:
“Be a morning person. Self-control is greatest in the morning and gradually declines throughout the day (which is why you start visualizing that glass of merlot by 5 p.m.). If you have a willpower challenge – like mastering the piano or learning a foreign language – schedule it for the morning.” – Alex Green
“When you become aware that you’re judging or censoring yourself today, suspend that thought. Take a few deep breaths instead. Inhale slowly…exhale slowly. Then look around you with fresh eyes…listen with new ears.” – Dr. Gay Hendricks
Never quit. If you stumble, get back up. What happened yesterday no longer matters. Today’s another day, so get back on track on move closer to your dreams and goals. You can do it. Never give up on what really matters to you.

It was otherwise "ok". I also have their vanilla and chocolate and will try those out.
Today's blender drink:
- 8oz water
- Jay Robb Strawberry Egg White protein powder
- 1/2 avocado

Future of Training by Alwyn Cosgrove
Yesterday morning on my Facebook page, reader Craig Hexham asked a great question.
He wrote, "I'm generally satisfied with my results as a sixty-one year old male with twelve extra pounds (Having lost fourteen in the last four months). Is there a particular reason (ie, benefit) why I should add suspension training?"
He wrote, "I'm generally satisfied with my results as a sixty-one year old male with twelve extra pounds (Having lost fourteen in the last four months). Is there a particular reason (ie, benefit) why I should add suspension training?"
The answer is a big YES.
In fact, late last year I had a game-changing interview with Alwyn
Cosgrove, one of the world's most successful and popular trainers, and
here's what he had to say about using Suspension Training (with a TRX or Jungle Gym):
"Those guys single-handedly eliminated the stability ball from most
gyms because there's nothing that you can't do better on a TRX than you
were doing on a stability ball. It's so versatile and it's alive. Every
rep is a slight adjustment and tweak. It becomes asymmetrical in nature
with the loading. It's the future of strength training."
Wow, that's a SERIOUS endorsement of Suspension exercises
from a man that has been training people since the late 80's, and who
has co-authored five books on the New Rules of Lifting, and who has the
most successful gym in North America.
When Cosgrove speaks, the entire Fitness Industry listens.
Alwyn (simply pronounced, "Allan") went on to say:
"If I give you a set of dumbbell presses, Craig, with 50 pounds,
there's a fatigue. Maybe you do nine or ten, and you can't do any more.
"But I
can do a TRX chest press or TRX push up, which is a similar exercise.
It's the same muscles. I get more muscles involved because of the
selection, but I when I hit fatigue I can move my feet, use them as a
mechanical drop set, and extend time under tension.
"It's something where we can adjust the load in real time. I could do a
drop set with dumbbells and hand you smaller weights, but Suspension Training is better...because it is the
equivalent of going from a 50 pound dumbbell, where you can't lift
anymore, to a 49 pound dumbbell where you just about lift it, and I can
keep tweaking it in real time.
"Suspension Training is a huge tool in our training."
But here's what's funny. Before he used Suspension Training for the
first time, Alwyn was hoping that it wouldn't work. Then he tried it,
and was hooked (just like YOU will be).
"Craig," Alwyn said in his Scottish accent that makes my name sounds like Creeeeg, "I hoped that I could say that Suspension Training was a gimmick and that I wasn't going
to use it. Then I started using Suspension exercises, and it was so good that I had no
option but to rewrite some of my philosophies because this tool was so
powerful."
Wow.
The Future of Training.
Changed an Expert's training philosophy.
So why aren't you using Suspension Training?

Why You Should TRX
I'd be surprised if you haven't done this before.
And by this, I mean used a TRX or other Suspension Training device.
Here's why, according to Alwyn Cosgrove, you should consider a TRX or Jungle Gym:
"Those guys singlehandedly eliminated the stability ball from most gyms because there’s nothing that you can’t do better on a TRX than you were doing on a stability ball. It’s so versatile and it’s alive. Every rep is a slight adjustment and tweak. It becomes asymmetrical in nature with the loading. It’s the future of strength training."

Today's Kickbutt Mindset Tips:
You can’t change your genetics, but you can change your attitude, your persistence, your environment, the people you listen to and hang around with, and the things you do. You can change, so if you want to, just get started.
“When something happens, the only thing in your power is your attitude toward it; you can either accept it or resent it…It is not things that disturb us, but our interpretation of their significance.” – The Art of Living

Make the Right Decision to Control What You Can
We cannot control what others do or say, but we have total control over our behaviors and internal state. We don't have to be scared, angry, nervous or jealous. We have a choice in how we react to all circumstances. Choose the right reaction. Make the right decisions. Keep moving forward, no matter what.
“Happiness and freedom begin with a clear understanding of one principle: Some things are within our control, and some things are not. It is only after you have faced up to this fundamental rule and learned to distinguish between what you can and can’t control that inner tranquility and outer effectiveness become possible.” – The Art Of Living
Whatever is in your way, you’re stronger than it, you’re tougher than it, and you’re better than it. You’re going to beat it.
Remember that planning is the key to beating all obstacles!

PS - Focus on abundance, not scarcity.
“When there is scarcity, we worry a lot about getting our fair share—what goes to him doesn't go to me. The harvest becomes fraught with danger and competition. When we worry more about planting, though, sharing the harvest gets a lot less complex. Plant enough seeds and the scarcity eases. In fact, if you plant enough, you'll never have to think twice about the harvesting.” – Seth Godin

Truth About Sleep, Food and Training
Oh, the irony. The secrets to success are obvious truths that people don't want to hear: Sleep more. Eat better. Exercise. Read. And Work.
Let's talk about real food, real training, and the need for sleep.
First, I stopped by the local market today for basic supplies today...but the selection of oranges and strawberries was too much to resist so I added those to my order.
No need for junk food when nature gives you real food. STOP eating foods that come packaged in a bag or a box, and switch to foods that come packaged in a peel.
Or as Jack LaLanne says, "If man made it, don't eat it."
Today's after workout blender drink:
- 8oz water
- 1.5 servings Vega protein powder
- 1/2 frozen banana
- 2 handfuls spinach
- 6 strawberries
Had this with 1oz almonds, 1oz roasted mixed nuts, an apple, an orange, and 2 cups decaf Green Tea.
Today's training was basic movements:
Squats, Step-ups, Pullups, and Leg Curls.
And you there, not sleeping enough. Listen, you can't make up for a lack of sleep with anything. You need at least seven hours. Period.
Here's why you - and your kids - need more sleep:
You can't "get by" on 6 hours of sleep. You can't "improve the quality" of your 6 hours to make up for lost hours. You just need more sleep.
Yes, the world has changed in the last 100 years, but your need for 7-8 hours of sleep hasn't. You're an intelligent individual...make the right decisions that allow you to sleep better and longer.
Today's Kickbutt Mindset Tips:
You can't be afraid to try new things and possibly fail. Only by "Failing Forward", will we breakthrough and learn new things about ourselves that allow us to reach new levels. Failure isn't bad. Failure isn't final. No matter how BIG of a failure you have to deal with, you can always RISE up and overcome it - and even become STRONGER because of it. So never, ever, EVER give up on something that is important to you.
Questions to ask yourself, and to answer for yourself: “What will it take to finally make the changes you need to succeed? How bad do you want it? What fears are stopping you? And why aren’t you willing to change? What will it take!?!?”
Never ever, ever, EVER give up on something that is important to you.

Do It
Today I am taking my own advice. In a few hours I'll be heading downtown Toronto to do something that I've been meaning to do for a long time. More details will be shared AFTER I do it.
Until then, here's my advice to you.
Stop saying you want to change if you’re not actually going to do anything about it. BUT if you want to change, take action today, even if it is just the tiniest step in the right direction. Visit a website to learn more about how to achieve your goal. Buy a book. Start reading the ones you have. Contact people who can help you. Take that first action step. And then take another one tomorrow, and another the day after that. Every single day from now on take another step forward toward your goal, toward the change you want to make. Never stop and never give up.
Because...
"You are responsible for exactly who, what, and where you are in life. That will be just as true this time next year. Situations aren’t important. How you react to them is." – Kekich Credo #58
"Whatever you do or plan, there will be obstacles that you won't be able to predict. And the bigger and more important the undertaking, the more likely the odds of encountering them will be. However, every obstacle is not actually an impediment, nuisance, or disaster: it is an opportunity for success. It is by overcoming obstacles that you learn and grow, and even find a sense of meaning and accomplishment." - Neil Strauss
Stay strong and keep pushing,

Today's Kickbutt Mindset Tips:
Put your head down and get the work done that you can control. Don’t get upset by things you can’t control. Go with the flow. Breathe. Work on improving everything else. Don’t take set-backs personally. Keep on moving ahead. Don’t allow yourself to get knocked off course by negative people. Stay strong, get stronger, and keep on pushing.

Plus, it's Ballantyne's Day. LOL. Saint Ballantyne is the official patron saint of fat burning and intense workouts. On Ballantyne's Day, he banishes belly fat by making you work really, really hard. That's why everyone loves him!
My training today was a good deadlift workout:
1) Hang Clean - 3x6
2) Sumo Deadlift - 3x3
3A) Rack Pull - 4x8
3B) Military Press - 4x3

Upper body pump workout
You're going to see a lot of Mini-Workout Challenges like
this in my new programs, including the new TT Meatheads
"Spring Training" program coming out March 1st.
But for now, if you simply did the Pull-up and Dip challenge
below, you'll get an amazing upper body pump.
Here's what you will do...
After 2 minutes rest, move to:
your knees toward your chest. This reduces shoulder stress.
Do NOT ever use shoulder destroying bench dips.
Why not? Here's why, according to my friend and smartest
man in fitness, Bill Hartman:
"The bench dip requires excessive shoulder extension and
puts the shoulder in an unstable position, while stressing
the subscapularis muscle (part of the rotator cuff) and the
AC joint. It's also a crap exercise for overload."
But back to the muscle-pump superset...
Coincidentally, my scores for each were 56 reps. That's 56 pull-ups
in 8-minutes and 56 dips in 4 minutes. With the pull-ups, it breaks
down like this:
2x5, 1x4,9x3,7x2, & 1
For dips, the reps per set are higher, but I go to about 2/3
of failure on the first set, and then try to keep doing
another set every 10-15 seconds.
Have fun, and let me know your scores in the TT Member's area where
you can get every single TT workout for less than 77 cents each.
You'll get EVERY TT MRT program, every TT Meathead workout,
ALL of the TT Abs and Nutrition bonuses, access to every TT
bodyweight program and bootcamp manual, PLUS first access to
all TT programs released in the next 12 months.
All of this for literally 77 cents per workout...or even better,
33 cents per fat burning day between now and next
Ballantyne's Day.
You can't afford to miss out on this amazing deal.
Wishing you your best Ballantyne's Day ever.

Dips Challenge for You
Yesterday my chest and back got a great workout. Part of it was from the bench press and the rows, while a lot of it also had to do with the Pullup and Dip challenges that I did.
How many dips can you do in 4 minutes? That was another part of my workout today, and I did 56. (Using bars, not shoulder-destroying bench dips.) Any gymnasts out there that can hit 100?
By the way, you can find out from Men's Health contributor Bill Hartman as to why bench dips are shoulder destroyers here:

Today's Kickbutt Mindset Tips:
I'm re-reading an incredible book, "Turning Pro", by Steven Pressfield. Here are some of his gems from it:
TURNING PRO IS FREE, BUT IT’S NOT EASY.
When we turn pro, we give up a life that we may have become extremely comfortable with. We give up a self that we have come to identify with and to call our own.
TURNING PRO IS FREE, BUT IT DEMANDS SACRIFICE.
The passage from amateur to professional is often achieved via an interior odyssey whose trials are survived only at great cost, emotionally, psychologically and spiritually. We pass through a membrane when we turn pro. It’s messy and it’s scary. We tread in blood when we turn pro.
WHAT WE GET WHEN WE TURN PRO.
What we get when we turn pro is we find our power. We find our will and our voice and we find our self-respect. We become who we always were but had, until then, been afraid to embrace and live out.
- Steven Pressfield, http://www.stevenpressfield.com/turning-pro/
And he continues...
“Turning Pro changes how we spend our time and with whom we spend it…It changes how people perceive us. Those who are still fleeing from their own fears will now try to sabotage us.
"They will tell us we’ve changed and try to undermine our efforts at further change. The will attempt to make us feel guilty for these changes. They will try to entice us to waste time with them as we’ve done in the past, and when we refuse, they will turn against us and talk us down behind our backs.”
“At the same time, new people will appear in our lives. They will be people who are facing their own fears and who are conquering them. These people will become our new friends.”
“We will have to choose between the life we want for our future and the life we have left behind.” – Steven Pressfield
Great stuff.
Along those lines of turning pro and achieving big things:
“Ask yourself: What grand goals would inspire me every minute of every day? What would I do with my life if I were playing full-out? If I were thinking big – and even BIGGER than that! – what dream would I commit to fulfilling?” – Dr. Gay Hendricks

Bench and Pullup Challenge
I'll admit, I don't like benching on Monday, because that is way too old school and stereotypical. But that's how my schedule came together this week.
But I hit a great workout, somewhat motivated by this classic quote. You gotta love it.
"The Iron never lies to you. You can walk outside and listen to all kinds of talk, get told that you’re a god or a total b******. The Iron will always kick you the real deal. The Iron is the great reference point, the all-knowing perspective giver. Always there like a beacon in the pitch black. I have found the Iron to be my greatest friend. It never freaks out on me, never runs. Friends may come and go. But two hundred pounds is always two hundred pounds." - Henry Rollins
My #meathead training today: Bench, row, pullups, dips, 1-arm row. Good times.
How many pullups can you do in 8 minutes? I can do 53. Don't go to failure on your first sets.
My 53 goes like this: 2x5, 1x4,9x3,7x2, & 1

No Dairy and No Lifting and No Stress
The no dairy experiment continues. The Raynaud's seems to be contained by no dairy despite spending a LOT of time outside shoveling snow and taking photos of the dog (while I wasn't wearing gloves).
You can check some funny dog-walk-in-the-snow photos at www.TurbulenceTrainingFanpage.com.
Last night's dinner was amazing old-school comfort food, Shepherd's pie...but dang well deserved after the 3 dog walks and all the bodyweight filming we did yesterday.
I have an easy day today. No lifting. But definitely more dog walks. And will continue with my 10th straight day of meditation. This is now a new habit. I won't miss a day going forward. It really helps reduce your stress in all areas of life.
Yesterday, while waiting at the Port Huron border to cross into Michigan, I read through a new fitness magazine and stumbled across this quote:
"Research has shown that high-intensity interval training can burn 15 to 20 percent more calories than a moderate, steady workout of the same duration," says Cedric Bryant, chief science officer for the American Council on Exercise.

We are all a work in progress and will be until our last day on Earth. But each day you can improve. It might be just a small baby step compared to yesterday, or a giant leap compared to the start of the Transformation Contest, but you can - and will - improve every day. Keep going. Keep pushing.

#1 fat loss food in a bag
Funny story.
Yesterday I drove from the old farm down to Lapeer, Michigan to film
more follow-along bodyweight workouts for you. It was awesome.
On my way, I had to pass through customs and show them my work visa.
"So what makes you so special?", the customs officer asked as he inspected
my O-1 (O literally stands for "Outstanding").
my O-1 (O literally stands for "Outstanding").
"I'm a fitness expert and writer for Men's Health magazine," I replied.
"Oh. I've given them a lot of money over the years," the young customs
guy said. (I didn't know what to say!) Then he held up a bag of a
TT-approved fat loss food, and added, "But I learned to eat these!"
TT-approved fat loss food, and added, "But I learned to eat these!"
I gave him the thumbs up and he sent me on my way. His snack is the
ONLY fat loss food that comes in a bag. You'll find it on page 13 here.
As you know, you should outlaw almost all foods from a bag or a box,
but this Customs officer chose the only one that you can eat.
PLUS, when you go to that link, my good friend and top nutrition

Snow Day Bodyweight Workouts
Today I was snowed in and prevented from driving to Michigan to film my workout videos.
That gave me a free day, so in addition to a couple of long dog walks, I also hit these bodyweight mini-workouts.
1) 4 minutes of The Punisher (Narrow-Stance Bodyweight Squats x 20 seconds then Hold the bottom Squat position x 10 seconds and repeat 8 times)
2) Pushups (2 minutes using the 20 on, 10 seconds rest system)
3) Lunges - 100 reps
4) Bodysaw supersetted with side planks
5) 100 jumping jacks
And then another dog walk in the knee deep snow.
Here's another 4-Minute Miracle workout to try:
1A) Narrow-Stance Bodyweight Squats x 20 seconds
1B) Hold the bottom Squat position x 10 seconds
Repeat two more times, then without resting, go to:
2A) Spiderman Pushups (alternating) x 20 seconds
2B) Mountain Climbers x 10 seconds
Repeat one more time, then without resting, repeat 1A & 1B three more times until 4 minutes is up.
Today's Kickbutt Mindset Tips:
Be proud of yourself for taking action, getting out of your comfort zones, and getting closer to life of your dreams. It’s your life and doing the right thing is more important than what other people think or say about you. Stay strong. Get stronger.

By the way, over at Early To Rise, Matt Smith and I have mapped out our own “hierarchy of needs.” It goes like this. Money is less important than time, and time less important than your reputation. More important than your rep, however, is family, and of ultimate importance is love. It’s hard to explain exactly what we mean by love. But like Robert Ringer explains today about joy, we agree it isn’t something you can chase. You must move towards love and joy in a different manner. I really enjoyed Robert’s essay today, and I know you will too. Read it here:

Today's "Business" Lesson:
Everyone, like it or not, is "in sales." No matter what your career, no matter what your industry, your entire day is based around persuading other people to help you or do things for you.
When you are persuading people to help you make the right food choices to lose fat, you're selling.
When you are persuading your banker to help you out with a loan, you are selling.
When you are persuading your children to behave, you are selling.
Just another reason why everyone should become better at selling and persuading, and stop thinking of sales as a bad thing.

"I need a tough, 4-week fat burning workout program for our

No problem, I replied, and dipped into my workout toolbox to

Zombi Music for Deadlifting is No Good
How cool is this? Just received some feedback from the trainer of Baltimore Raven, Dennis Pitta.
The trainer said, "Your decision to help trainers and everyone get healthier, has directly (well, you know what I mean) helped one of the Baltimore Ravens. Dennis Pitta, #88, has been one of my clients for the past couple of off-seasons. Your help, efforts, workouts, information, encouragement have all helped me to help Dennis. You helped me, to help Dennis, to help the Ravens to win. A very small, maybe immeasurable part of his Super Bowl ring is because of you. Believe it!! "
(PS - If you're a 49'ers fan, please don't be mad at me!)
My training today: Hang Clean for speed, Sumo deadlift, rack pull, military press. GT's.
Unfortunately, my Beats-by-Dre earbuds just broke, so I'm at the mercy of the sirius xm classic vinyl selection at the gym. today was bad. very bad. During my heavy deadlifting, I had to listen to "The time of the season for loving" by The Zombies (wait, they had Zombies in the 60's?). Weird.
Yesterday was an airport travel day. I ended up eating a lot of nuts and apples. Now I have 2 days here in Toronto, then 2 days on the farm near Stratford, then 2 days in Michigan for more HWR filming, then 4 days on the farm, then a week back in Toronto, then back to the farm for 2 days, then back to Tampa for 5 days to celebrate Joel Marion's daughter's 2nd birthday. She's an adorable little kiddo.
Now some training news...

Superbowl Workouts
Yesterday I hit a great morning training session at Powerhouse Gym in Tampa with Bedros Keuilian.
I hit 240 for 1 rep in the bench. A long way from the 275 I was doing in Dec 2011, but I'm on my way back.
Then had a 4-egg omelet (asking for real eggs) with mushrooms, onions, peppers, and tomato, plus a side of kale, and a side of fruit (pineapple and strawberries) at Parkshore Restaurant back in St. Petersburg. Great place. Later in the afternoon, after some Home Workout Revolution filming, I had a pre-game Athletic Greens, an apple, and almonds before heading to Joel Marions for the superbowl party.
At the party I stayed away from chocolate covered almonds...no gluten or dairy, despite the popularity of the chocolate covered snacks and the so-called "amazing cookies" that were available. Also, no beer or booze, just club soda.
However, I did eat a lot of mixed nuts and had some fantastic steak and chicken. During the "balck out", I had a really great discussion about a future book idea with Adam Bornstein, co-author of John Romaniello's upcoming NY Times best-seller. Interesting developments, stay tuned!

What’s the secret to tripling productivity? I call it my Magic Time. And the good news is that you have your own version of it, too. Everyone does. Let me explain. We all have a time in our day when we are literally THREE times as productive as any other time of day. All you have to do is identify that time, recognize its importance, free up that time, and then ruthlessly protect it from the time vampires who try to suck it away from you.

Stand Up for Yourself On Super Bowl Sunday
Sunday, especially SuperBowl Sunday for so many of us here in North America, is what most of us work so hard for. So appreciate this time and the people you spend it with.
Or as the wise philosopher G. Costanza once said, "Live, dammit. Live! Every precious moment as if this was the last year of your life."
Today I'll be heading back to Powerhouse Gym in Tampa with Bedros Keuilian to do a bench press workout. Then breakfast, then filming some exercise videos, and finally heading to a Superbowl party. Going dairy-free will help me avoid last year's chocolate covered almond overeating. Too much of a good thing last time!
Last night's dinner was almost too much of a good thing as well. Along with Jason Ferruggia, John Romaniello, Shaun Hadsall, Adam Steer, and many others, Joel Marion took us to a Brazilian steakhouse - one of those places that bring you out all kinds of meat. I almost ate too much. Fortunately I was somewhat full from going to the salad bar twice for greens, tomatoes, peppers, and hearts of palm. Even had a little room for fresh berries after dinner.
Probably won't eat until after the workout today, though.
I might get the gym to make me a shake of fresh fruit, no whey protein after training. Won't be the same as a chocolate whey-peanut butter-banana shake, but it will do.
At the Superbowl party, there will be plenty of healthy food alternatives, like grass-fed steaks and nuts so that there will be no need to eat junk. And most important, it should be a tremendous game.
Today's Kickbutt Mindset Tips:
No matter how much you might feel like you are struggling, never give up. Never ever ever give in. Keep moving towards your vision. Never stand still. Believe in yourself.
What do you stand for? Be proud of it. Live by example. Don't let the critics trump your integrity. Be yourself. And do what you born to do and deliver the great messages and value that you were born to share.

Dairy Free with Ferruggia
Today was a late fast. And probably my last one since I'm losing too
much weight with the 16-8 approach. I just don't eat enough during the 8
hours.
After a lengthy delay waiting for Adam Bornstein to get out of bed (to be fair to him, he shifted from PST to EST), Adam, Ferruggia, and I drove to Tampa's Powerhouse Gym for a workout. We did a meathead wokrout of hammer strength back machines and rows and yes, even some curls.
Powerhouse Gym in Tampa is an epic meat market. Lots of very fit guys and gals, and a LOT of guys and gals on steroids.
I make no judgement, just describing how it is. Their body, their choice.
It was all very entertaining and some of the training routines we witnessed got me thinking about the best amount of training volume...and how that goes out the door when you are on supplemental testosterone.
I would be in the hospital from some of the workouts we saw women doing (literally 20 sets of leg presses...insane).
After training I broke the fast with an apple, and then finally a lunch of tuna tartar and a cobb salad (no egg, no cheese, no dressing) and then a few ounces of raw and roasted almonds - and my daily Athletic Greens.
One downer of the no-dairy diet was not being able to order a chocolate-banana shake at powerhouse gym after training. They did not have any other protein powders.
Now we're off to a big dinner at one of those Brazilian steakhouses where they bring you 31 different kinds of meat.
However, I get heartburn if I eat too much meat, so I won't be going overboard like I have in the past at these types of places.
Have a great night and I'll be back with a dairy-free, gluten-free Superbowl update tomorrow or Monday.

Funny Story on My Dairy Free Eating
February is Gluten-Free Dairy-Free.
It required some special ordering at dinner, but otherwise quite easy...since I'm not at home making blender drinks with whey protein.
Why dairy free?
I have Reynaud's disease...two of my fingers on my right hand swell up in the cold. It's really funky...they look like sausages if I'm in Canada for weeks at a time in the winter and walking the dog a lot. Dr. Peter Osborne said to try going dairy-free.
Funny story...before I knew what the medical condition was, I thought the fingers were infected, so I was icing them everyday over Christmas. That made them much, much worse! They were almost twice the size as normal. Then I went to the doctor, and he took one look at them and diagnosed me. Now that I'm in Florida for a few days, they are normal.
Friday's meals were...
16 hour fast ended at 10am with an apple and 2oz almonds
lunch - chicken, pork, salad, and roast vegetables at hotel
snack - 2oz roasted almonds dried fruit
dinner at park shore grill or park side grill in St. Petes (can't remember the name).
tuna tartar, salad with pecans and cranberries (no dressing or blue cheese), chicken breast with mixed vegetables, and mixed berries (no cream) for dessert.
In celebration with my friends, I also had 2 black russians, one with Ciroq vodka (made from grapes) and one with Chopin (made from potato). Most vodkas are made with wheat and are not gluten free.
Hung out with Bedros Keuilian, Yuri Elkaim, Shawna Kaminski, and my long-time bud, John Romaniello. John will be releasing his first print book in 2013 and he'll be on the NY Times list for sure. Watch for his name!
Dinner ended around 9:30pm last night, and since I plan on doing the 16-8 fast plan for a few days, I won't eat until after my workout with Jay Ferruggia later this morning.
Before then I'll have an Athletic Greens drink and perhaps a Green Tea from Starbucks.
We're hitting powerhouse gym in Tampa around 11am.
Cool side note...I also got to meet a guy that owned a Superbowl ring (from 1983 Washington Redskins, Ken Hoffman). We had a great conversation about what makes a great coach (passion and the ability to inspire people to do their jobs - much like you inspire people to transform with your passion!)
Today's Kickbutt Mindset Tips:
Here's something that's hard to accept, but once you do, you'll be better off for it. One of the biggest factors in how stressed you get is your decision to be stressed by your circumstances. The truth is you don't have to let things bother you as much as they do.
So much can be accomplished with a long term vision and resilience to short term setbacks. Not every problem is conquered overnight, but if you persist and never give in, you will succeed.

Best Day to Change
Happy February 1st. You can just as easily change your life today as you could have on New Year’s Day.
If the year hasn’t started as well as you had hoped, Brian Tracy is here to help you hit the reset button and plan out the next 11 months to make this an amazing year. You’re getting a 2nd chance. You can still do it. Carve out some time this weekend to take Brian Tracy’s advice below. You can still make 2013 your best year ever. The best time for a second chance is right now.

If you need some help with success, here's a list of secrets from a book called, "The Richest Man in Town". These tips apply to all areas of life, not just making money.
In RMIT, the author interviews the richest person in 50 of America’s largest cities, and they give a no-fluff account of the traits that allowed them to get incredibly wealthy.
They include…
1) Owning their own business (“stop working for the man as soon as you can”, they all said)
2) Working a lot (at least 60 hours per week)
3) Focusing on VALUE creation, not making money
4) Focusing on their unique talents and abilities and delegating everything else
5) Partnering only with those who bring something critical to the table
6) Getting addicted to ambition
7) Persistence. Never giving up. In fact, most of them believe that persistence is the ONLY reason they have gotten farther ahead in life than other people.
Not talent.
Not luck.
But simple persistence.
Stay strong and keep on pushing!
Here's a politically incorrect piece of Tough Love advice:
“An hour of effective, precise, hard, disciplined – and integrated thinking can be worth a month of hard work. Thinking is the very essence of, and the most difficult thing to do in business and in life. Empire builders spend hour-after-hour on mental work…while others party. If you’re not consciously aware of putting forth the effort to exert self-guided integrated thinking…if you don’t act beyond your feelings and instead take the path of least resistance, then you give in to laziness, make bad decisions and no longer control your life.” – Kekich Credo #44
Today's Kickbutt Mindset Tip:
"You can change mind-set, no matter how set, through the power of your own thinking, and through the power of association and implementation." – Dan Kennedy
