Back over the bar in Denver

The gym was open again today and so I rushed in for a fast workout. I was done in 35 minutes.

1A) Power Clean
1B) Mobility

2A) Deadlift
2B) Incline Press

That's it. Had to get to work for a busy day. Yesterday I trained in the office (don't tell anyone), doing this:

=> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v8NBtnKa-nQ

And then this podcast got posted last night...it's a really great interview (conversation style) with a business guru from down under. I think he's near Ali Fox!

Today's Kickbutt Mindset Tip:
We are not perfect, but we can get better every day. Never stop improving. Never, ever give up on what is important to you. Make the effort to add good habits and eliminate the bad. Take time to prepare two solutions for every obstacle in your life. Hire a coach. Get accountability. Implement the structure you need to live a better life. Commit to these changes and follow them every day.

Craig Ballantyne, CTT

PS - Great end of the month tip...

Identify the Important. Many things matter more than money & stuff, including Family, Health, Love, and Experiences. Remember that as you chase your goals and as you tighten up your life today. Get rid of 3 unneeded items from your home. Cut ties in a toxic relationship. And replace a bad habit with something better.

Punisher 7x

It was a great weekend at PaleoFX and I returned to Denver on Saturday afternoon. Sunday was a catch-up day, writing letters and thank you cards, shopping, and planning out a few new projects.

Today is a regular Monday for me, being Canadian and all, but since the gym's not open I did a punisher workout.

1) RKC plank for max time

2) 7 rounds of bodyweight punisher squats

3) 3 rounds of punisher pushups (20-10, held in top position)

Now for a day of work, including TT summit presentation prep and Mastermind coaching calls. I get to deadlift tomorrow.

Today's Kickbutt Mindset Tip:

Achieving your outcome goals, such as losing 10 pounds or making $100k, requires taking action process goals. These are the steps you can control. Know your destination, create the roadmap, take action, and complete the processes...and you’ll achieve your goals. Actions speak louder than words. Quit talking. Stop procrastinating. Start doing. Use the information you’ve learned. Life rewards action. You only get paid for done.

Get it done,

Craig Ballantyne, CTT

Benching in Austin

Today is my last morning in Austin. There was time for a great bench press workout before speaking at Paleo FX. I'll get back to Denver later today and then take the rest of holiday weekend off from training.

The bench pressingz went like this:

1A) Bench Press
1B) Band Pull

2A) Pullups
2B) Dips

Good times.

And here's an Epic interview for biz owners... with even more Epic show notes ... you almost don't have to listen to it!
=> http://www.marketingforowners.com/podcast/388/

Today's Kickbutt Mindset Tip:
Coach and Care. Connect and Correct. Communicate to your Community. Solve people's problems, encourage dreams, deliver hope, and give a reason to believe in the future, because right now someone out there is crying themself to sleep because you haven’t found them and helped them. Stop procrastinating. Get helping. Don’t hold back.

Give,

Craig Ballantyne, CTT

PS - Now it's time to...

...head over to Paleo FX and follow today's 2nd kickbutt mindset tip:

Surround yourself with people that are smarter than you…fitter than you…kinder than you…and that make you play up a level in life.

Paleo Squats

Yesterday was a really, really great day at PaleoFX. And today was a really great squat workout to kickstart my day.

Today's Workout:

1A) Squat
1B) Box Jump

2A) Row
2B) Back Extension
2C) DB Split Squat

Boom.

This is me and The Beast, Ben Greenfield, yesterday at PaleoFX with my Perfect Day Formula.

Listen to our podcast here:

I was wiped out after 6 hours of teaching about 100 paleo nutritionists and personal trainers from around the world (we had attendees from Scotland, Australia, and that wild and wacky country, Canadia).

Fitness QnA on Facebook:

Q: Hi Craig! You've suggested to me in the past to try egg protein powder (as I had a sensitivity to all others). I did get some and it's perfect! My only issue now is its not sold locally and I can't find any online with a Canadian company. Any website suggestions? Thanks

Answer:

I buy my protein powders from JulianBakery.com - they have a .ca too, but I think the egg white protein is only available through the .com. Also, check Amazon.ca. Great to hear from you! -

Today's Kickbutt Mindset Tip:
Measure your PROGRESS, rather than seeking perfection. Understand you will never reach perfection...instead you must celebrate your journey as you improve from point A to point B. Make each day better than your last.

One more workout for me before heading to Paleo FX in Austin for a few days. It's going to be a busy push until Saturday afternoon. Sunday is going to be a fantastic day when I get back under the bar.

Today's Kickbutt Mindset Tip:

Take time to sit and think. Spend time in introspection examining your life. Identify what matters. Think about how you can improve your routines. See your obstacles and create solutions. Pick the best opportunities to pursue. Set goals with hard deadlines. Chase the right priorities for your right life right now.

Push on,

Craig Ballantyne, CTT

PS - Ask for help!

Set your ego aside & reach out for help. It’s okay that you don’t have all the answers. No one’s perfect

PPS - Never give up.

Do not say, "I can't do that," or, "I'm not good at that." You might not be the best but you can always get better. Change your belief in yourself. Big Breakfast and Big Bench Sunday

Ugh. I ate a big breakfast on Sunday, perhaps too big, and then slid into the gym for a bench press workout. This is my 2nd round through Jim Wendler's 5-3-1 for Hardgainers and my weight is up 2 lbs and bench press is up 6lbs. Happy to see progress!

Workout went like this:

1a) Bench Press - 190x8

1b) Band Pull

2a) Pullups - 51 reps in many sets

2b) DB Press - 60x4x10, 60x11

Tomorrow is an off-day. I haven't been sleeping well, and on Wednesday I go to Austin for PaleoFX, so I need to get some good sleep for the next few days. Thursday is busy (way too busy for my liking), and then things calm down on Friday for a week ... until the www.TTSummit.com gets wild!

Hope to see you at one of these events.

Yesterday I went bowling with Matt Smith, Jeff Schneider, Simon Black of www.sovereignman.com, and Joe Polish of www.ILoveMarketing.com. Now that's a motley crue. But wait, there's more... there was Jeff's wife (from Belarus), our friend Viktorijia (from Lithuania), Franklin (from Wisconsin), and Max and Bella (Matt's kids). Great times!

Today's Kickbutt Mindset Tip from my Virtual Mentor:

“Our biggest fears carry with them the greatest opportunity for personal growth. Our fears and how we face them bring out the best in us. If something doesn't scare us, if something doesn't challenge us, it doesn't change us. In life we have two choices. We either step forward, expose ourselves to risk and evolve, or we step backwards to stay safe. Remember that the safest path brings the least reward. Dare to face your fears, dare to take risks, dare to be better.” – Robert MacDonald

Bench and bowl on,

Craig Ballantyne, CTT

PS - Ask it!

Ask the big question: What do you really want to achieve in life? Then think, are the people I'm spending time with helping me achieve this? Today's Kickbutt Mindset Tip:
Be on your best behavior today. Act polite and courteous. Do not swear. It’s just one day. You can do it. CB and Roman and Military Presses

Today you’re in for a treat. It’s a short, burst workout created by me and my ‘evil twin brother’ John “Roman” Romaniello. The workout is below, but first, a couple of funny photos. We do look like twins, don’t we? Just like DeVito and Arnold, haha.

2_roman1_roman
Twins! And here we are at a trainer seminar last month.

If you don’t know Roman, he’s a New York Times bestselling author, a famous NYC trainer (who now lives in LA where he trains record producers, rock bands, and movie stars), and most important for you and I, he’s a stubborn fat loss expert.

For the last 7 years, ever since I’ve known him, Roman has specialized in helping you lose the last 5 to 25 pounds of fat. This is PERFECT TIMING for all of us, because we are just 10 days away from Memorial Day (here in America, as I’m in Denver today and Austin next week for PaleoFX) and just a few weeks from the official start of summer. And besides, there’s never a good time to be holding on to stubborn fat.

Roman knows how to help you overcome the most stubborn love handles, cellulite on your thighs, or flabby fat on the back of your arms. So if you have a big day coming up this summer (like a son or daughter’s wedding, a graduation, or even your own Big Day), don’t worry. We have you covered … and we’ll start with today’s…

5-Minute Stubborn Fat Fix

1A) *Switch Lunges (weak side) – **AMRAP in 45 seconds - Rest 15 seconds
1B) Switch Lunges (strong side) – AMRAP in 45 seconds - Rest 15 seconds
1C) ***Perfect Pushups – 45 seconds - Rest 15 seconds
1D) Burpees or Total Body Extensions – 45 seconds - Rest 15 seconds
1E) Kettlebell Swings or Goblet Squats – 45 seconds - Rest 15 seconds

That’s a 5-Minute Stubborn Fat Fix to add to the end of your regular TT workout, OR you can do this circuit up to 4 times. Add an extra minute of rest at the end of the 2nd and 3rd circuits.

*Switch Lunges => Lunge forward with your “weak” leg. Return to start position. Then step backward with your strong leg. Return to the start position.

**AMRAP => As Many Reps As Possible

***Perfect Pushups => Lower in one second, pause for one second at bottom, push up in one second, and pause at top for one second.

This will turn your fat loss “up to an 11”.

But wait, there's more. I had an awesome workout in Denver today.

1a) Military Press
1b) Front Squat

2a) More Military Press
2b) Pull-up with Knee-up

35 minute session and then off to work to do multiple podcast interviews and coaching sessions.

Good times.

Busy day.

This morning's kickbutt mindset tip:
I know you’re going through a lot right now, but I wanted to let you know you’re doing awesome. It's amazing what you have accomplished in the last 12 months. So just imagine...where you are going to be in 3 years... 5 years... and 10 years from now... because of all the hard work and right decisions you are making today. We often (and I'm guilty of this too) get focused on the short term, but remember, we're here for a good time - and a long time. So keep focused on your long-term vision... for business, for family, and for life. Make time for what matters, take control of your days, and you'll own that life of your dreams.

Alright? Save this message for whenever you need it. Stay strong - the world needs you now more than ever.

Proud of you!

Keep going,

Craig Ballantyne, CTT

Off-Day and Beyond Dinner

It's an off-day today. I didn't get a lot of sleep. Last night I was out later than normal (for a school night!) with Jeff and Isabel from BeyondDiet.com.

We had a beyond dinner date at The Kitchen in Denver. It's a great farm-to-table restaurant, but the portions are too dang small... especially to a guy just getting back from Vegas, LOL.

My upper back was sore today, so I skipped lifting and just did foam rolling. Tomorrow is my final workout from the first phase of my new program, and we'll soon re-test my bench press. Unfortunately my weight has not gone up. I need to push harder on eating, and I need to get more sleep.

However, I do have a little bit of training info for you. We cover a lot of workout stuff at the start of this podcast, surprisingly. You'll hear my training tips, my #1 mentor, and my anxiety story... all in this great listen here

=> https://rustylionacademy.com/rusty-lion-podcast-105-formula-for-a-perfect-day-with-craig-ballantyne/

On the nutrition side, here's a new greens supplement I'm enjoying...reminds me of my days as a kid when I loved chocolate mint ice cream. I thought I had outgrown that flavor, but this has got me back on the mint train!

=> http://www.amazon.com/Dynamic-Chocolate-Certified-Mangosteen-Pomegranate/dp/B00XLZQIJI

Today's Tip:
We can all get more done and achieve more. What motivation do you need? What consequences can you put in place to inspire action? Stop cheating. Start changing. Things can be different. It’s up to you.

GID Baby!

Get it done,

Craig Ballantyne, CTT

PS - This is awesome.

From the big man himself...

From the Joe Polish Podcast: http://ilovemarketing.com/biggest-bo...ter-diamandis/

Tony: I remember when I got a phone call from the Make a Wish Foundation saying a young man named Sean Stephenson is about to die and he wants to meet you. (Born with osteogenesis imperfecta, Stephenson stands three feet tall, has fragile bones, and must use a wheelchair). Sean came to a seminar and at the time they said you cant grab him. I said I want to take him across the fire. They said, take him across the fire? They said if he coughs, he breaks a rib. I said Ill be really gentle. Were going to do this and he did it. How many years ago was that?

Sean: Im 36. I was 19.

Tony: You were 19. Youre now 36. Hes a beautiful man. He could be complaining and whining and what does he do? His whole life is not about himself. Thats why hes so happy. He doesnt live in himself. He lives outside of himself serving things he loves. He still takes care of himself and hes funny. He's married now. The bottom line is this young man over here who now is at a different stage in life, I think he lived because he lived for more than himself. Yeah, Im sure he felt pain but we always suffer when we think about whats being done to us or what people are going to think or what they should have done or have done.

You cant control that stuff anyway. Why be upset? Are people going to be mean? Are people going to be unfair and unjust? Are people going to be beautiful or generous? You just never know when thats going to happen so might as well enjoy yourself along the way. And if theres any gift I can give you, its to tell you what you know already, that you get to decide you're going to live in a beautiful state.

Vegas Food and Fun Workout

Great workout today.

It was powered by a big steak dinner last night. I had a not-super-impressive Kobe steak at Jean Georges in the Aria. It was REAL Kobe beef, too, from the Kobe prefecture in Japan.

But it wasn't the best waygu steak I've had.

I even sent the first one back. The 2nd one was slightly better, but still not worth it. I was very confused.

But we had an amazing time!

My dinner was steak, baked potato, spinach, and olive oil (for the potato). I also had a couple of Black Russians.

My dinner guests included Bedros Keuilian, Tyler Bramlett and his wife, the team from Fit Body Bootcamp, and best-selling author, Shawn Stevenson (author of Sleep Smarter => http://www.amazon.com/Sleep-Smarter-Essential-Strategies-Success/dp/1623367395/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1463150256&sr=1-1&keywords=sleep+smarter).

I don't have any photos yet, but watch for them soon!

After dinner I went for a walk and then still was asleep before 10. I had a decent night's sleep and then hit the gym for this "bridge workout" to stay strong until I can get back to deadlifting on Monday morning.

1A) Pullups
1B) DB Chest Press
1C) BB Split Squat

2A) Dips
2B) Leg Curls
2C) Rows

Good times. Tonight we're taking 50 personal trainers out to dinner at Mastro's in the Crystal Shops. One of our favorite restaurants.

And yesterday we had a great lunch at a new restaurant in Aria. It's called Herringbone, and I had a kale salad and really great piece of salmon.

The night before that we went to a small sushi joint for sashimi and bok choy. It's a little place called The Grand Wok in MGM.

Today's Kickbutt Mindset Tip:
If it’s in your house, you’re going to eat it. Junk in the house = You and I eating the junk. Period. (And YES, that includes ME.) So get it out of the house. By the way, it is called “junk food” for a reason…because it belongs in the garbage. Don’t feel bad for tossing it…because it doesn’t belong in your body. Stay strong this weekend. You CAN do it. I believe in you!

Believe in yourself,

Craig Ballantyne, CTT

Vegas Workout

Day 2 of 6 in Vegas. First full day, of course. I arrived early Tuesday afternoon, did some grocery shopping, and got holed up in my room for some work. Had a 30 minute walk in the sunshine so I wouldn't get rickets. This morning was my last hard workout of the week.

1a) RKC Plank

1b) Bodyweight Row

1c) DB Reverse Lunge

2a) Chins

2b) Ball Rollout

2c) Shrug

2d) Bodyweight Lunge

Good enough times.

Gym was packed today at 5:30am. Must be all the East Coast folks arriving for the week for a seminar, like me. Also lots of folks from UK/Europe, so it's mid-day for them, still.

I'm sure the gym gets quieter as the weekend arrives. I've certainly never seen a Vegas gym that busy, and I've been in many of them before 6am!

Today's Kickbutt Nutrition Tip:

Know your nutrition obstacles. Write them down, then identify at least TWO solutions for each obstacle. This will help you avoid nutrition breakdowns. Plan ahead. Do your shopping and cooking and meal prep on the weekends, so that during your busy week you have your meals ready…and you avoid vending-machine regret. You can do it. I believe in you!

Push on,

Craig Ballantyne, CTT

Completely Different in Denver

Another busy morning and quick workout in Denver.

It was Meathead Bench Press & Travel Day. Off to Vegas in a bit, but first, the workout:

1a) Bench Press - 185x5x5

1b) Band Pull

2a) Pullup

2b) DB Incline Press

That's it. Have to save my arms for the flight. LOL.

And now for something completely different.

This isn’t a sales copy tip.

It won’t help you with a product launch.

But it will change your life more than anything else I could do for you this week while I’m out of the office at our Info Mastermind meeting in Las Vegas.

This is a 7-Day Goodness Challenge.

Here’s how it goes…

A friend recently came to me for advice. His brother had been 'in a funk,' and needed something to lift his spirits. Together, we put decided on a 7-Day Goodness Challenge.

Each brother is holding the other accountable to take action on each of these goals. Please join them. Do one "goodness act" each day. Let me know how it changes your outlook on life.

1) Perform a random act of kindness... buying coffee for the person behind you at Starbucks, buy flowers for the office, etc.

2) Connect with an old friend... someone you haven't seen in 5 years

3) Make a career connection between two good people you know

4) Do 3 minutes of mid-day meditation

5) Volunteer to walk a friends dog

6) Mail a thank you card to someone

7) Make a donation to food bank

Gratitude is just one of many ways to ensure Perfect Days.

Listen to my most recent podcast with Sean Croxton where I talk about how to apply my Perfect Day Formula to be more productive — this is one of my best podcasts ever! Sean is an incredible interviewer, and if you ever want to start a podcast, study Sean!!!

Today's Kickbutt Mindset Tip:
You can’t reach your full potential if you are overweight, tired, and unhealthy. Remember that the pleasure of eating lasts for only a short while, but you inhabit your body 24 hours per day, 7 days per week for life. Add a new healthy habit each day replacing an old unhealthy habit. Everyday you will be tempted to fall back on old bad habits. Do everything you can to resist that. Aim for baby step improvements everyday.

Alright, now off to Vegas for an amazing weekend of Masterminding.

Stay tuned and I’ll try and sneak out a 6-figure secret for ya. ;)

Talk soon,

Craig Ballantyne, CTT

Monday AM Rapid Fire Squat Workout

Today is a super duper busy day. I have four podcasts scheduled, including one at 7am local time.

Plus, I have five big team meetings, and then I have to plan, pack, and prepare for my week's trip to Las Vegas. It's Mastermind time with Mikey, Derek, Ferruggia, Bedros, Shawna, and the gang. It's going to be our biggest and best Mastermind party ever.

So I was up early and focused on a squat workout this morning. It was shorter than usual, but still awesome, and it went like this:

1a) Squat

1b) Box Jump

2a) Chest-Supported Row

2b) Back Extensions

Tomorrow I'll get in a bench press workout before heading to the airport, and I'll try to sneak in two Sin City workouts on Thursday and Friday.

Oh, and yesterday I recorded an amazing podcast with Brian Patrick Murphy from Mark Fisher's famous gym in New York City. They do some really wacky stuff there (at the gym). The podcast was high energy and we went deep. And I mean deep. Plus, the rapid fire round at the end was awesome. It will be out in a couple of weeks.

Today's Kickbutt Mindset Tip:
Ask the big question: What do you really want to achieve in life? Then think, are the people I'm spending time with helping me achieve this?"The key is to keep company only with people who uplift you, whose presence calls forth your best." – Epictetus ... Become the person you need to be to achieve what you want to achieve.

Get going faster than ever,

Saturday Morning Military Meathead Workout

This was awesome. So much fun. Nothing better than a Saturday morning Meathead workout. I'm so glad I snuck in the Friday deadlift workout because it allowed me to get in for a Military Press session today from Jim Wendler's 5-3-1 program.

1a) Military Press

1b) DB RDL

2a) Chin-up with Knee-Up

2b) More Military Press

Good times. Not as scary as last week.

BTW, there were a lot of "Uncle Ricos" in the gym today (Napolean Dynamite reference). Weight belts, lycra shorts, terrible form, you know the type.

Hilarity ensued, of course.

But I had a good workout despite them being in the way and grunting loudly with every rep.

And I was well fueled from a rib-eye steak dinner last night at the downtown Denver location of The Capital Grill. Had that with a baked potato & olive oil, and sauteed spinach. I skipped the booze. Followed that up with a trip to Whole Foods and bought a bunch of wild Epic protein bars, like Wild Boar and Siricha Chicken. Not Siri Chicken. Siricha. Or something like that. Should be some interesting (and hopefully tasty) experiments.

We also had a visit from Chef Gui at the ETR offices. I'll get some pictures up soon. Next week I'll be meeting him in Vegas for a Mastermind meeting with our group from www.100kinfogroup.com

Today's Kickbutt Mindset Nutrition Tip:

You can’t reach your full potential if you are overweight, tired, and unhealthy. Remember that the pleasure of eating lasts for only a short while, but you inhabit your body 24 hours per day, 7 days per week for life. Add a new healthy habit each day replacing an old unhealthy habit. Everyday you will be tempted to fall back on old bad habits. Do everything you can to resist that. Aim for baby step improvements everyday.

Baby presses every day too,

High Energy Kickstart to the Weekend

It's going to be a busy, busy day in Denver. Chef Gui Alinat is popping into the office to meet the team. I also have a lot of phone calls and podcast interviews, so it's time to bring the energy.

Had a great workout to start the day, too.

1A) Power Clean
1B) Pushups
1C) Mobility

2A) Deadlift
2B) Incline Press

3) Walking Lunge

Tomorrow will be the 10x5 overhead press from Wendler's workout. I thought it was going to destroy my delts last week, but it didn't. Should be even better tomorrow.

Today's Kickbutt Mindset Tips:

First, HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY to all of our Moms. And yes, I just yelled it!

Second, here's the ‪#‎truth‬...If it’s in your house, you’re going to eat it. Junk in the house = You and I eating the junk. Period. (And YES, that includes ME.) So get it out of the house. By the way, it is called “junk food” for a reason…because it belongs in the garbage. Don’t feel bad for tossing it…because it doesn’t belong in your body.

Remember...

Life is the sum of your experiences and the people you spend your time with. Connect with someone that matters today and create a memory to last a lifetime. Reward yourself for your hard work. Celebrate your victories, big and small.

Wishing you a great weekend,

Craig Ballantyne, CTT

PS - Be good.

Be on your best behavior today. Act polite and courteous. Do not swear. It’s just one day. You can do it. And then you can do it again and again. “Goodness in and of itself is the practice and the reward...fine-tine your thoughts, words, and deeds in a progressively wholesome direction...To be good is to be tranquil and worry-free...The virtuous life holds these treasures: your own right action, your honor, and decency.” – Epictetus

Dear Personal Trainers

Dear Personal Trainer,

You know what’s coming.

The summer time slowdown.

All of your clients are going away.

I know the feeling.

It happened to me about 10 years ago when I was a full-time personal trainer in Toronto. All of my clients checked out and went up to the lake for the summer.

I was about to go broke waiting around for them to come back.

Until one day I met a couple of people at a park. We got to talking about how they wanted to get personal training, but couldn’t afford it.

So I said, “Hey, why don’t you find a couple more friends and we’ll use my TT bodyweight exercises here in the park.”

And my bootcamp was born.

Soon I was helping more people – in the summer – than I was during January in the peak time of year for one-on-one personal training.

That’s when I realized the POWER of bootcamps.

You help more people.

You make more money.

And you work less.

It’s the TRIPLE threat.

Even Jillian Michaels has switched to this workout secret after giving up on The Biggest Loser show and going her own way.

But there are still too many personal trainers that don’t know about this secret.

And so that’s why I’ve assembled 12 of America’s top bootcamp experts to come to a secret location near Denver, Colorado to teach all of my friends – including YOU – about how to run the world’s BEST bootcamp workouts so that…

You help more people.

Make more money.

And you work less.

It’s that simple.

And I know that as the top personal trainer in your community, you’ve been looking for these secrets for a long, long time.

Well, now they are ALL available to you.

So join me here (very soon!)

Over those two days you’ll learn EVERYTHING that took me over 10 years to figure out.

You’ll soon be on the fast track to massive success in your community.

Helping more people.

Making more money.

Working less.

Having more time for your family.

And making a greater impact in your community.

Changing lives.

While improving yours.

I can’t wait to help you out.

See you soon.

So join me here (coming soon!)

Please don’t miss out on this chance to improve your financial future while changing the lives of so many others.

PS - You do NOT have to be a personal trainer to attend. You can also get TT-certified at the event, too.

Sincerely,

Craig Ballantyne, CTT

Coach and Care. Connect and Correct.

Communicate to your Community. Solve people's problems, encourage dreams, deliver hope, and give a reason to believe in the future, because right now someone out there is crying themself to sleep because you haven’t found them and helped them. Stop procrastinating. Get helping. Don’t hold back.

Wednesday meathead presses

So much fun in the gym with a Meathead workout. Wish I could do a workout like that everyday. But tomorrow will be a recovery session of stretching, foam rolling, etc. Today was:

1A) Bench Press
1B) Band Pull

2A) Pullups
2B) DB Low Incline Press

That was all.

Good times!

Followed that up with some podcast interviews and some Paleo Protein powder shakes.

BTW, if you haven't read this yet, check it out... it's a classic from my assistant editor, Nick Papple.

Today's Kickbutt Mindset & Nutrition Truth Tip!
It's easy to get down on yourself. Far, far easier than keeping your head up and staying motivated on another day of good nutrition, no junk food, and short burst, workouts. But looking long-term, we know that things would be a lot harder if we took the easy way out. Stay strong. Your body is a temple. Do not disrespect the gift you have been given by consuming excess junk food or alcohol on a regular basis. Living the right way isn't easy, but living the right way is best for us and everyone else around us.

Do it right,

Fat Finger Squats

Today we've got a squat update, a giant fat finger, a hot flash tip, and paranoia that I will be walking funny tomorrow. Enjoy!

Alright, let's start with... the giant fat finger. What's up with that?

Well, during my bodyweight rows today I broke a blood vessel in my F.U. finger on my left hand. (Wait, it's not called an F.U. finger? Then what is it called in medical terms?)

Anyways, the squat workout went like this...

1A) Squat
1B) Box Jump
1C) Bodyweight Row

2A) DB Split Squat
2B)

The workout called for a final set of squats at 205 for 20 reps. It was enjoyable in a weird way, but I used a slightly wider than normal stance my adductors got worked in a way they haven't for a long time.

Tomorrow the truth shall be revealed... I will likely have major DOMS.

Okay, now for your...

HOT Flash Alert...

Last month we had an interesting discussion about dealing with Hot Flashes. Well, yesterday I was reading Women's World magazine (as I do every week!) and they had a great tip....

According to the Mayo Clinic, drinking hot, caffeinated beverages increases the risk of hot flashes.

THEREFORE, the magazine recommended drinking iced green tea. It's cold, contains less caffeine, and also has L-theanine, a compound associated with lowering stress.

I hope that helps!

***
And that's why I read Women's World every week... to help YOU! Then to make up for reading Women's World, I watched some NASCAR and shot at a few paint cans with my dad's old rifle. :)

Hahaha, j/k. No offense meant to anyone!

Today's Kickbutt Mindset Tip:

Plan ahead. Know your obstacles. Identify at least 2 solutions for each roadblock. For example, for your diet, do your shopping and cooking and meal prep on the weekends, so that during your busy week you have your meals ready…and you avoid vending-machine regret. For your workouts, always have one of my no-equipment short, burst circuits at the ready…for when you can’t get to your normal routine. You can succeed if you plan and prepare. No excuses. Let’s go!

Go time,

Sunday Shoulder Press Fun Day

Sunday was a fun day in the gym. I've decided to train more on weekends and less on weekdays due to work demands. Unlike most of the fitness world, I'll take Mondays off, and probably Thursday too, because we have an early meeting on that day.

Yesterday was a high-volume pressing day in my program. And it was good times.

1) KB Snatch

2a) Military Press

2b) Front Squat

3a) More Military Press

3b) Chest-Supported Row

Then I had to run a lot of errands to get all caught up after a busy week.

Today's Kickbutt Mindset Tip:

Dream Big. Think Big. Act Big. Truly believe that you can - and will - achieve great things. Do not put a limit on your potential.

Push forward,

Calorie counting and food addiction

Hey, are you as exhausted as I am after last week? It was one of the busiest ones I've had in a long time, and so that's why I was so happy to see this email show up in my inbox on Monday.

It's an amazing message from Certified TT Trainer, Missi Holt. Please read every word. I know her story is going to connect with you, and that her advice will give you faster results and so much less stress.

Enjoy!

Craig

I used to have a notebook full of hand written equations like this:
         Calorie counting

I used to spend countless amounts of time and energy calculating every last gram of fat, protein, sugar, and fiber to ensure I wasn't exceeding "my limit" by even .5 a gram!

The neurotic scribbling in that notebook breaks my heart.

Fortunately, religiously counting calories and macronutrients is a thing of the past for me. I truly believe that type of bondage kept me stuck in a cycle of misery where that "last 5 pounds" would just never come off and I would never be good enough.

What I didn't realize was that by my rigidity, I was actually forcing my body into a place of "fat storage" and worse I was damaging my very soul.

Strict, severe, harsh, unyielding, unbending, firm, inflexible — all these words describe my past relationship with food, exercise, and myself.

If I wasn't actually weighing out my food and calculating my calories or macros, then I was thinking about weighing out my food and calculating my calories or macros.

My controlled environment was controlling me.

I had no room in my life for anything other than my weight, how many calories did I burn, how many calories did I eat, what size pants do I wear, and on and on in my fruitless, exhausting pursuit of perfection.

My weight fluctuated 5-8 pounds on a regular basis and it often triggered wild swings between feeling "starving" and "stuffed-to-the-gills."

I lacked balance, flexibility, and had no real understanding for how my body worked, what it truly needed, or how to actually take care of it.

I misread all the signals — thinking more intensity and duration in my workouts coupled with less food and rest would be the key. Boy, was I wrong!

The journey out of this prison didn't happen over night. But the decision to break free occurred in an instant. And when it did incredible transformations unfolded for me.

You, too, can transform your life! Join my 30-Day Transformation Challenge and learn how to create space for fluidity, mindfulness, and curiosity for your unique health profile.

By joining the Challenge you will have access to cutting edge tools that will teach you to:

  • Learn, know, and give your body what it needs: rest, food, water, movement, and fun so it can heal
  • Speak more kindly to yourself to stay joyful and motivated
  • Think before you act to avoid health and fitness sabotage
  • Recognize what your body really needs on a moment to moment basis so that you truly take care of yourself and easily avoid setbacks
  • Trade fear, doubt, mistrust, and anxiety for love, clarity, confidence, and peace
  • Listen to your body, heart, and mind in order to shift from external force to intuitive wisdom
  • Become reliable in your decision-making so that you easily discern what to do, focus on that goal, and follow through
  • Exchange self-abuse for self-care

Fluidity became my flagship method of being. For me, structure is vital, but rigidity was destructive.

The ability to fine-tune my movements on a moment-to-moment basis so that I "stayed" the course of my health and fitness goals was a major turning point in my life.

As a result I no longer struggle with food addiction, body image issues ore even my weight – those 5-8 pounds I constantly battled are gone! But more importantly I love, trust, and respect myself.

So, how can you get to where I am today?

I developed a coaching program to help people just like you break free from whatever is keeping you in bondage and our next 30-Day Challenge starts in May.

If you desire to dive deeper into the process of change so that you can live life to the fullest, finding joy and freedom in all of your experiences then you need to be a part of my next 30-Day Challenge.

It. YOU will change your life.

Thank you so much, Missi.

PS - How will you measure your life?

It will be by family and friends, love given and received, people supported, experiences enjoyed, reputation built, and the legacy you leave. It won't be measured by money made, calories counted, emails answered, or petty arguments won. Life is measured by what really matters. Be clear on what does, and make it count. And then make the right decisions for your right life. Always.
