Metabolic Finisher Gauntlet Definition

My training today: Hang Clean, Deadlift, Front Squat, Glute Ham Raise, Power Wheel Rollout.

Before, during, and after training, I take Vitamin C. About 6g total per day. I also take a few nutrients to help reduce soreness and recovery, but I'm not sure if they work. When I'm sure they do, I'll let you know.

The latest TT workout, TT Metabolic Madness - Criminally Insane Fat Loss, is now available at www.TTmembers.com.

I've also created a new workout for www.247Insiders.com called, Metabolic Finishers Gauntlets. What does that mean?

Let's start with a definition.

The Gauntlet - a form of punishment, chiefly military, in which the offender was made to run between two rows of men who struck at him with switches or weapons as he passed.

In the TT world, a Gauntlet program uses this system based on the definition:

Exercise A
Exercise B
Exercise A

For example, a metabolic finisher gauntlet would be:

Burpee - 8 reps
Kettlebell Swing - 15 reps
Burpee - 8 reps

More workouts using this system on the way...but there is a free bodyweight one available on www.turbulencetrainingfanpage.com

Today's Kickbutt Mindset Tips
It is easier for people to get behind you and help you succeed when they know where you want to go. Share your goals with positive people. They'll help you achieve them faster. Good people want to help.

Certified TT Trainer is Making an Impact on the World

"What if?".  That question can move you and scare you.

For Mike, the question is scary.

What if he didn't get certified?

Where would he be?

Find out here and discover the IMPACT he is making now

You'll discover how he more than doubled the size of his bootcamp program and is starting to have a GLOBAL impact in the fitness industry, with his programs now sold in over a dozen countries.

That's serious.

He's even helped three clients win $3500 of my money in the TT Transformation Contests.

You think his clients are showing him a little love after that?

You think?

Just imagine how many lives would have missed OUT on this impact if he didn't get Certified.

But he did, and now he's on a Mission.

Learn more about real IMPACT here

Next week will be the next opportunity for new trainers to get TT Certified and to be part of the 1 Million Mission.

But it will only be available for the first 5 trainers to take action.

It all starts Monday, March 5th.

Don't be left asking, "What If".

Looking forward to seeing you in the Club,

Craig Ballantyne, CSCS, MS
Creator, Turbulence Training Certification

If you hesitate and wait to join, the price of admission alone to the TT Trainer Summit will be $197.

Truth About Travel Workouts

Getting ready for a 5-day trip to Washington, D.C., to attend an Internet business seminar. It's going to be a lot of fun, a busy weekend, and a great chance to meet some smart folks.

But I won't be going off track from my training and nutrition. I don't mind if someone PLANS to go off-track, but I don't like it when someone uses travel as an excuse and complains about getting off-track.

Big difference between the two mindsets.

If you don't want to get off-track, there's no reason to do so. Plan ahead. It should be easier for most people to stay on track with training when they are at a hotel...all they need to do is take an elevator down a few floors to the gym. It's that easy.

Don't be lazy. Don't fall out of your routine and good habits.

You know what happens on trips. You know the obstacles they throw in your way.

So plan. Come up with two solutions to every obstacle.

It's that simple.

That's how you succeed.

I'll be doing my workouts in Washington, and loving it, while having some good meals but staying lean.

Today I biked some hills, and tomorrow I deadlift.

Good times.

Then followed up with a Facebook QnA.

Q: Currently doing MRT may 2011. 6 weeks to go for big wedding. Is this the best fat shredding program? Lost 4" off waist and now can loosely wear lrg shirts. Still have belly though.

Answer:
Justin - That is a great program, but you should change every 4 weeks. Try Oct 2011 TT Metabolic Finishers next.

Today's Kickbutt Mindset Tips:
"Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped...living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of other's opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become." - Steve Jobs

"The spirit, the will to win, and the will to excel are the things that endure. These qualities are so much more important than the events that occur." - Vince Lombardi

Be thankful for what you have and what you have accomplished. A positive attitude goes further in fat loss - and in life - than a negative attitude.

Here's one TT Trainer who I am grateful to have working with my business. Today, he writes, "What if he didn't get certified?" (It's a good thing he did)

Meathead Monday with Good People in Your Life

My #Meathead Monday training: DB Press, Pullups, BB Row, triceps, face pulls, curls.

And here's a simple, simple Meathead leg workout finisher: 3 sets of 15 reps for narrow-stance barbell squats using 1/3 of your normal 8 rep weight. Whoo, daddy...that's a good time for your quads.

Today's Kickbutt Mindset Tips:

Eat This Way Today

Eat slowly today. Chew your food, don't wolf it down. Enjoy it. Eat things ONE at a time (almonds, nuts, cheat day M&M's). Notice the difference it makes.

Reflect on your relationship with eating...Why do you eat the way you do? Do you live to eat? Why? Are there other activities you can use to replace - if necessary - the emotions you associate with eating?

Things to think about.

Make some connections...it will help you with your long-term lifestyle nutrition changes.

Oh, and drink slowly, too, or even less.

Truth about alcohol and fat loss (and CB's favorite drinks)

Your eating and drinking should actually have rules. Speaking of which, I've been thinking a lot about these lately, and I'm going to write a TT article about them this week...and a different way you might want to approach creating your own

Alcohol and your fat loss

Chances are you're reading this on Sunday morning...hopefully you didn't have too much to drink last night.

Let's talk about a real politically incorrect topic in the  fitness world - booze.

So many readers ask, "Can I still drink while on a fat loss program?" And well, the answer is yes, you can do anything you want on a fat loss program...you just have to accept the consequences of your actions.

And what are the consequences of drinking?

Read the full TRUTH about alcohol and fat loss here

PS - I gave up booze to dedicate myself to this mission.

Why you must do this

You must track your results, workouts, and diet. The more you know about yourself, and more you use this knowledge, the better your results. That will allow you to succeed faster than ever.

My training today: Squat, squat jumps, split squat, glute ham raise, hanging leg raise.

Post-Workout Ice Pellets to the Face

My Meathead training today: Pullups, pushups, db press, db row, triceps extensions, hammer curls.

Today's workout finisher was a 15-minute bike ride directly into ice pellets whipping into my face, combined with rain, uphill. Followed by a 40-minute dog walk in the rain, supersetted with more ice pellets to the face. Got one right in the eye at one point and started laughing and thinking, "if only TT readers could see me now"...

My workout also included these shoulder savers - been doing these exercises consistently again with great results

Today's Kickbutt Mindset Tips:
Never quit. If you stumble, get back up. What happened yesterday no longer matters. Today's another day, so get back on track and move closer to your dreams and goals. You can do it.

Do fewer things well rather than a lot of things half-heartedly. Eliminate the demand on your already strained systems, and give more focus and attention to the priority projects in your life that will make the biggest difference.

Total Body Extension Video

My training today: Hang clean, trap bar deadlift, front squat, glute ham raise. Dog walk x 4. It's nice and sunny here in Toronto, but snow is on the way. Best to get some good beach time in with the dog while we can.

A common question I get is, "What is the total body extension" exercise. Fortunately, Mike Whitfield, CTT, created this total body extension exercise
video:

Today's Kickbutt Mindset Tips:
Do your best with everything you have control over. (And work to improve the amount of control you have over all aspects of your life…control = freedom). Most people fail to control themselves, and end up only with regrets. They trade minutes of pleasure (i.e. fast food) for days, weeks, months, and years of regret. You must plan ahead to overcome obstacles, rather than trying to "out-cardio" your bad diet. You'll never succeed that way.

Failure isn't bad. Failure isn't final. You can SURVIVE almost anything and come back better and stronger than ever before. Don't let the fear of failure stop you from achieving the success you deserve.

Real regrets only come from not doing your best. All else is out of your control. You're measured by results only. Trade excuses and "trying" for results, and expect half-hearted results from half-hearted efforts. Do more than is expected of you. Life's easy when you live it the hard way…and hard if you try to live it the easy way. – Kekich Credo #4

Muscle Hangover Wisdom

Having muscle soreness is like being hungover. People say there's things you can do, but really, it's all about prevention. Cut back. What I'm saying is, don't let your biceps do a dozen tequila shots in one workout. Ease into your training (drinking). Don't try to keep up with the big boys (Australians/Polish women). Forget about impressing the ladies with your curling (chugging) ability. And always drink lots of water.

Book recommendation:
Most people will never read this book, partly because of the horrendous title, but it is THE book that could change your life if you are struggling with your mindset. I highly recommend reading, "Psycho-Cybernetics" as soon as possible.

Ab workout finishers vs crunches

I'm embarrassed for what passes as "ab workouts" from today's fitness magazines. Still with the crunches after all these years.

Today's Nutrition Debate:
I've never had a cup of coffee in my life. Now there's nothing wrong with a little caffeine or coffee, but be careful...a Grande Starbucks coffee has 330 mg of caffeine - equal to more than 4 red bulls.

Today's Kickbutt Mindset Tips:
"People will do almost anything to stay in their comfort zones. If you want to accomplish anything, get out of your comfort zone. Strive to increase order and discipline in your life." - Kekich Credo #1.....Change your mindset. You are a person who can and will succeed. Truly believe. Start today.

The mistakes of your past are not who you are now. No matter what you've done in your life you have a second chance that starts today. It is your time to choose who you will be and who you will become, for the rest of your life. Common Fitness Question and Easiest Solution

Here's a common question I get:

Q: At a standstill. I train 6/7times per week, 5 weights, 1 long cardio and 2/3 intervals included. I have been training muscle groups (3 sets. 8reps) but I'm not seeing any gains now and getting a bit stale. Any suggestions to mix it up?

Answer:
What do you mean gains? What are your goals? What training program are you using? If you want to gain muscle, use one of the TT Meatheads programs. If you want advanced fat loss then start with TT for Buff Dudes and Hot Chicks or TT Metabolic Resistance Training.

But please, stop trying to design your own if you aren't an expert.

You can ALL of the workouts I've ever created for just $97 here:

PLUS, you get EVERY workout I'm going to create for the next 12 months.

That's less than 77 cents per workout.

Why would you waste all of your time and energy trying to figure this out on your own when I've spent over 17 years, including 2 of them getting a Master's Degree in Exercise Physiology, to create the world's best workouts.

Isn't your body worth 77 cents - instead of another wasted 6 weeks while you try and figure this out yourself?

Get the workouts here:

And another common question:
Hey CB, hope all is going great this year. While traveling what do you suggest as far as travel food? Do you just bring protein powders, nuts, etc?

Answer:
Yes, and then go to the grocery store as soon as you land. I covered this recently on my blog at

CB in Nicaragua

Had a smooth trip from Toronto to Miami to Nicaragua on Saturday. Two medium flights s of 3 hours each, and only a small delay getting out of Toronto due to the winter weather.

Today the journey continues. I'm going here and will post real photos soon

Until then, I have a few great nutrition and fitness articles to kick off Ballantyne's Day week. That's right, Ballantyne's Day WEEK. Take that, St. Valentine.

1) Best nutrition tip of 2012 (from Dr. John Berardi)

It also includes 7 foods and nutrition strategies I'm using these days.

3) Awesome article about Workout Finishers from Certified TT Trainer, Mike Whitfield:

And of course you get today's Kickbutt Mindset Tips:
"Fill your life with positive expectations. Demand the best. Attitude and desire contribute to 90% of your achievement." – Kekich Credo #86…

...Drop the negatives. Hang around positive people. And most importantly, believe in – and expect more of – yourself.

Find out what truly makes you happy but does not cost a lot of money. You shouldn't be surprised to find that it's the people, and the little things in life, that bring you the greatest joy.

I'm going to enjoy my time with really great and interesting people down here in Nicaragua, but I'd be just as happy in my backyard with ol' Bally the Dog doing some dog wrestling.

Always look on the bright side and be happy where you are.

CB's Guide to Finding Good People

Earlier this week we had a discussion on my www.CraigBallantyneFanpage.com over on Facebook about whether or not it was difficult to find good, positive, supportive people in your life.

Frankly, I don't believe it is hard if you are willing to stand up for what you believe in, act in a way that is congruent with your beliefs, and put some effort into looking.

So in more detail, here is:

CB's Guide to Finding Good People

Step 1) Identify what you value in people.

Step 2) Identify where this type of person spends time.

Step 3) Go there. Whether it is a church, gym, beach, dance lessons, bootcamp fitness class, Chamber of Commerce meeting, local lectures, weekend seminars, or weekly group meetings. You don't meet good people by watching TV…but good people ARE out there. Go forth and find them.

"When you take action, particularly bold action, the boundaries of what you believe to be possible (your belief system) expand. Which, in turn, gives you the capacity to consider new ideas, new possibilities, and new concepts that you previously thought to be impossible." - Robert Ringer

"If you take a layer off a roll of paper towels, you won't see the difference. Even if you take 3 layers off, you won't see much of a difference. But if you keep taking off layers, all of a sudden the roll WILL look smaller. Your fat loss journey is the same. Stay the course. Keep working hard." - Mike Whitfield, Certified Turbulence Trainer

Check out Mike's high-energy, fun, Facebook page filled with cool tips and his trademarked humor:

Mike's a good person...one of the high-energy, positive, supportive people in my life who found Turbulence Training and became a TT Trainer.

He found TT because I put my mission out there. I was proud of it, and I don't care who disagrees with me. All that matters are the good people who are attracted to the mission of helping others.

Worst Diet in the World

Politically incorrect Craig is back. Look out.

And here's the politically incorrect #truth.

The worst diet in the world is the one you are on.

The one that is NOT giving you results while you work so bloody hard.

Worst. Diet. Evah. (Say it in your Alicia Silverstone 'Clueless' voice.)

The solution?

Move on. Say goodbye to the worst and switch to one that works.

So say hello to my lil' friend, Roman, and his new nutrition program, the one he lives and breathes to look like a ripped cover model all year round.

Not only is it better than your current diet, but you'll also get three free TT workouts when you try it out through this link.

Bet your current diet isn't giving you any free workouts, is it?

Didn't think so. Stoopit diet.

You need to dump that old diet and hook-up with this new one,you know what I'm saying?

After all...diet is even more important than exercise for fat loss.

So get Roman's Diet at $50 OFF + 3 TT Workouts for free <= LAST day

Outside Workout in January

Today's outside workout included sprints, kettlebell swings, and goblet squats. And dog wrestling. It was so warm here in Canada that I did my workout outside while wearing shorts and a sweatshirt.

Sure was good to hang out with the dog again...even though we only have a couple of walks together before I take off again on Friday.

Here's a picture of him with his new bandana stylingz:

For TT Members...BIG news:

My new program, "Turbulence Rises", a bonus workout from Roman and CB is now available for Platinum TT Members.

BTW, John Romaniello is going to be a fitness superstar - someday as popular as Jillian Michaels. You heard it here first. Unless you've heard him say it before me...because he probably has.

Today's Kickbutt Mindset Tip:

The keys to your future are your daily habits today. Start implementing new positive behaviors today. Make them a habit. Create a better future.

Home and Away

Finally. Going home after 11 days on the road to see ol' Bally the Dog. Apparently he is now sporting a kerchief. We shall see how this looks. But then I'm off to the southwest coast of Nicaragua on Saturday for 5 days.

Today's workout: Box jumps, squat, split squat, glute-ham raises. Not metabolic, but still good times.

But not as good of times as the stoopit photo of Roman and I that I posted on my personal Facebook here (hit the subscribe button to see the photo):

Kickbutt Mindset Tips for the Day

Back in Toronto after a 10-day trip to Texas and Tampa, I'm going to take a recovery day and then do a squat workout on Wednesday.

The trip was fantastic. I rarely get recognized in gyms, let alone in airports, but yesterday I was recognized at both the Tampa and Toronto airports by other passengers. Cool to meet y'all.

Today's Kickbutt Mindset Tips:
To get something you've never had, you have to do something you've never done.

Do not procrastinate. Take action. Just do it.

Set deadlines for your goals. Get out of your comfort zone and put some pressure on yourself. Live up to – and exceed – the highest standards you have set for yourself.

21 Day Energy Challenge

21-Day Energy Challenge for you: Go to bed and get up at the same time for the next 21 days. I promise it will do more for your all-day energy levels than anything else you can do.

Weekend Weight Gain #Truth - I know a few TT'ers will wake up a few pounds heavier today, and you might too. BUT...here's the #truth. As one reader mentioned to me on Sunday, she ate an entire box of pizza and gained 3 pounds.

At most, the pizza contained 1200 calories. And as you know, 1200 calories will not show up on the scale as 3 pounds of fat. Remember, there's about 3500 calories per pound of fat…so in reality, she would have had to consume NINE full pizzas OVER her calorie needs in order to gain 3 pounds of fat on the weekend. Or 19.44 extra Big Macs over her calorie needs to gain 3 pounds of pure fat (with a Big Mac coming in at around 540 calories).

So why the weight gain?

Well, it's from another common element of food…one that you can see on the ingredient list. Sodium. In this pizza, I checked the online ingredients and found it to contain 640mg per serving, and with at least 3 servings per box, our dear reader consumed almost 2 grams of sodium at one sitting. Now that's a recipe for water retention and overnight weight gain.

Workout Solution:
Just added "Turbulence Forever" to the download area for all Platinum folks at TTmembers.com. And "Turbulence Rises" comes out later this week. Good times. Let's make the fat go WHOOOSH.

Today's Kickbutt Mindset Tip:
The best thing you can do for yourself is to make everyone else around you better.

Identify what you really want to accomplish and what you need to do to get there. Schedule your work day ruthlessly. Focus on your unique ability. Take action. Implement. Get stuff done.

Training with Roman today

Last night we hit the Blue Fugu Hibachi steakhouse in St. Pete's for a big group dinner. John "Roman" Romaniello and I discussed some prettttty, pretttty cool projects that he has coming out in 2012. It's going to be a huge year for him.

And today will be a huge day for me because he and I will be working out in Tampa. I'm deadlifting. Not sure what he'll be doing. But we are working on a new program for you called, "Turbulence Forever". It will be out on Tuesday.

We even worked on a little article for you about the Fat Loss WHOOSH effect. Check it out...somewhat controversial - here:

Here's a tip for you today:

Take time to review your food intake and continue to do so for the next 5-7 days. You'll learn SO much about your body and how it reacts to certain foods, plus you'll identify *hidden* calories in your diet that might be sabotaging your results. What are YOUR favorite fitness/nutrition apps and websites to monitor your diet?

Go to Jail or do this instead

Day off of hard training today. Looking forward to a record setting deadlift workout on Saturday morning at Powerhouse Gym in Tampa.

Now here's an interesting motivational mindset for you.

Imagine you had to go to jail if you skipped your workout to sit on the couch instead. How many workouts do you think you'd miss?

Great Q: I and several others have never gotten a clear answer to this question.... if you worked your muscles really hard for example on Monday, and you are really sore on Tuesday and still sore on Wednesday, do you have to wait until the soreness is completely gone before you can work that same group of muscles?

Answer from me:
Maureen - There is not a clear answer to everyone...it is an individual situation. First, adjust your program to do less volume so you aren't sore for 3 days. Second, ask yourself this, "Is there something else I can do instead?" If not, then it is a judgement call depending on goals, etc. But at the end of the day, be conservative. No need to risk it.

If you are struggling

If you are struggling with motivation today and are thinking of skipping your workout, then just do me one tiny little favor? Just go to your workout space and do your warm-up. Just 5 minutes, that's all you need. And once you get through the warm-up, promise me you'll do just one set, okay? Oh, and do me one last favor, just do a couple of intervals for me, pretty please? If you do that, I promise you'll end up doing the whole workout, and probably having an amazing session too.

Recruit a new member into your social support, such as a new workout partner or healthy-eating partner. This will add strength to your commitment.

LOL...I'm continuing my Mexican Food Across America challenge. Last night was Chipotle again, with the night before homecooked chili at the Marionz. Good times...and another workout planned for Powerhouse Gym in Tampa on Saturday.
